Another new ebay email. This one gives me a list of several items supposedly in people's carts. I am encouraged to drop the asking price 5% and they will alert the potential buyers. This is rather clever of Ebay I think. I would like to sell those books so maybe I'll try it?

I received that last week - but I was already running a 10% off sale that wasn't taken into consideration when they sent the email. Their email showed my prices as the original price - so my 10% off sale was giving these buyers more off than even they recommend - did any of those 8 items sell - nope - probably still sitting in the carts!

I'm always leary of eBay's attempt to control my sales, especially through lame emails, but this apparently is legit and the items actually are in people's carts. I got the same email early last week, dropped the price 5% and made a the $3,000 sale about two hours later. Couldn't believe it!

I would just ignore the message and let buyers make offers on your items. No sense in lowering the price even lower. If you are desperate for sales, why not give it a shot?

eBay now remembers and marks your listings for higher search visibility when you've recently dropped the price. I notice this on drudge the news website, my listing was in the ad banner and flashed "PRICE DROP". So it's more than just eBay notifing buyers with items potentially in their carts. It also registers on 3rd party sites ad banners.
