"Condition Description" box disappearing soon -- WTH?!?

"Starting in October

To ensure buyers get accurate info and reduce returns, we're moving all condition-related item specifics here for selection versus using written descriptions."

The above notice was added by eBay to some trading card listings which eBay has determined need to "tweaked" to conform to eBay's new unprofessional grading guide.

No big problem for me -- I have fewer than a dozen trading cards that need to be "tweaked."

But what struck me was was the language in this warning:  "we're moving all condition-related item specifics here for selection versus using written descriptions."  The warning further indicated that the "Condition description" box would be eliminated at a future date, including ALL the information which the seller had previously provided for the buyer's convenience.

Wait a minute -- WHAT?!?

First of all -- if this verbiage is intended ONLY for trading cards, no problem -- at least for those sellers who do not sell trading cards.

BUT!!!

Taking this warning at its face value, is it intended to be inclusive for "all condition-related item specifics" for ALL items?!?

For most of us, that's a considerably dangerous change -- removing the seller's own comprehensive condition descriptions, in exchange for eBay's "simplified" condition choices of "Near mint or better," "Excellent," "Very Good" and "Poor" -- all of which conflict with recognized and standardized condition grading standards used by millions of collectors, across the board for ALL types of items.

We sellers need verification from eBay that this seriously DRASTIC change regarding the "Condition Description" box is intended ONLY for trading cards, and NOT for EVERYTHING, as the verbiage written by eBay seems to imply.

Otherwise, the vast majority of eBay sellers will be wasting very valuable time, recopying their current "Condition Description" information, so that they all don't simply DISAPPEAR in a few months.

C'mon, eBay Blues -- help us out on this!

"Condition Description" box disappearing soon -- WTH?!?

@heckofagame

That's not to what I was referring.

The eBay message in question comes up when trading cards are being edited; but the phraseology employed by eBay in the message seems to infer that ALL the "Condition Description" boxes for ALL items (and not just trading cards) will be eliminated in the near future.

That was the purpose of my questions in my original thread.

Can anyone direct this question to a Blue for clarification?

I would prefer to hear that reassurance from a Blue, and not simply another seller.

@seller_news_team   Can someone please clarify if the elimination of the "Condition Description" box will be restricted to only trading cards, or will it also include all other "condition-related specifics" for other items?

Well they've already changed anything you write in the "condition box" to appear as "seller's notes" above the IS.

This is a bad move by ebay. I do not sell trading cards and their descriptions do not work for video games. I have been in business for 27 years and this does not describe what people are looking for.   In the Gaming world there is two types of video games. There is a cartridge and then there are disc.  Each can come with a box, or instructions and the game.  Then there is stickers which can be on a cartridge or the book or the box. There is combinations of each of these.  By not allowing for a better description or using theirs, this is not addressed.  This will hurt sales and increases returns. I thought this is what they are trying to stop. LOL
