Why are the higher priced items the ones with the watchers when there are many cheaper options for the same item? I'm talking about HUGE PRICE discrepancies...ex. Holiday Barbie for $1,000 will have 22 watchers while the same Barbie in same condition is available for $50 and has no watchers.

Watchers aren't buyers. The members watching the $1K listing might just be waiting to see if it actually sells, or if the seller comes to their senses and changes the price to something more realistic.c

All the sellers with cheap dolls are watching the spendy ones to see if they are missing anything. Happens all the time.

At any given time I have bunches of stuff in a folder named “Just curious “. Wouldn’t buy any of it but just curious.

All of the above, plus, people sometimes watch while they are thinking about it which may or may not lead to a sale.

Some just want to see if it will sell for that amount. They could have one they want to sell.

Personally, if something is priced TOO low, I assume there's something wrong with it and won't even bother to look.

Might be a unique item, might be an oddity with a mis-print or something different. I watch items all the time that I am also selling to see if it sells, has trends, etc.
Also - no 2 listings are exactly alike. That Seller might be willing to ship it to Prague and I am not.....someone in Prague might be willing to pay $1k to get something from the US they cannot get there - you just never know.

Everyone is watching the $1000 barbie to see if they'll ever sell it... maybe those watchers have one to sell. I have similar experience with more expensive coins having tons of watchers while cheap coins don't. That's because the barbie that's $50 doesn't need a watcher, when someone wants to buy it, they buy it, they don't watch it.

It is also a selling trick. Listing an item for a stupidly high price will drive some people to look at your other listings to see if they are also stupidly high priced and when they see they are normal priced they might buy something.
Some sellers will list an item really high just because that gathers a bunch of watchers in the hopes that will somehow translate into a higher sale price once they start lowering the price.
You can also see a stupid high price with a ton of watchers because the item used to be normal price, the seller was nearly out of inventory so they raised the price to the point where no-one would buy while they source more inventory rather than let an item with hundreds of watchers and a long sale history go to a relist. There are also other "save the listing" reasons you might see the stupid price as well.
Also, those who specialize in collectibles that are appreciating in value will sometimes list things at the price point they want out of the item. If I think 8th Edition Foil Magic the Gathering Shivan Dragon cards are going to $100 then I'll list mine at $100 right now so they will be there ready to sell when the market price gets there.

Because there are many people out there that like to see if a crazy seller asking 100x more than the normal price actually gets a buyer. They do not intend to purchase it. It is always a fact the more watchers the less likely it will sell over time.
