I sold an item, and it's original box is one size, ebay's shipping label had a slightly bigger size, 24 x 18 x 24 in. I "built a box to go around it to try and help protect it, but 24 x 18 x 24 box are the same price as shipping, $80 for 5 boxes, I'll only ever need 1. but the package turned out at 27 x 12 x 24. will this be an issue? should I ship it in its original box, with extra tape?
Has anyone shipped a package that was under on one dimension but over on another without issues?
Thanks.

Order a new shipping label with the correct dimensions and void the one with the incorrect dimensions. Easiest way to make sure you don't get a cost adjustment from the carrier.

Is the original box suitable for "shipping" the item by USPS?
Label should be purchases with the correct dimensions and weight.
Weight may not be a factor with this item due to "size" being the determining factor in the cost.
The 24 X 18 X 24 is at the max 108" length + girth for USPS shipping before the "balloon surcharge" (read as BIG $$ ) kicks in.
If USPS determines that the package exceed the "108" a serious surcharge will be applied, and charged to............ YOU by USPS through eBay.

do I get a new label, if I click order a new label from the sections dropdown, it wants to charge me another $86. this would be giving the item away for nothing. tand they have zero customer service, but they want money!!!!!!!!

I don't know if the original box is shipping worthy, but ebay sucks having no customer service and just wants the community to do what they charge for. it's been almost 25 years since using ebay, and i'll stick to local craigslist.
I'll just tape the original box A LOT!! I can't afford another $86 for a new label. I can't even afford to cancel the whole sale and do away with ebay, since they already charged for a shipping label.

using it for selling* I've only been buying for the last few years.
And one of those was hell, with the shipper shipping after the due date.

As was suggested in post 2.................... if you already purchased a label you can request to "cancel" that one, and purchase another.
ETA: cancel/void refund of a label can take 2-4 weeks to credit. USPS needs to know you did not use it.

so if the first one is canceled are they taking the $86 again, for $170, or just $86?
Knowing what my dog wants is more intuitive.

If you cancel the first label, you will get a credit. However, it takes a couple of weeks to show up, because they wait to make sure that the label really wasn't used.

When you void the first label, it'll be refunded in about 3 weeks.

You will be charged for the new label.
You will be refunded for the old label (after it's been verified not used).

Tape up and send is an option, just be sure that you do not hit that 108" "balloon surcharge". Back charge will double the shipping cost if exceeded.

Before you print the label you need exact (weight & measurement). If you weights/measurements are incorrect...USPS will charge you a "service fee" in addition to extra postage charge.

I just canceled it hoping for the best...
We sent the carrier your request. If the carrier hasn't scanned your label, you'll receive a refund in a few days.
So I have to wait to ship now.
Thanks everyone! ebay should pay you for providing their customer service!

Great, just be sure to ship within your listed 2 business day handling time.
