Why am I no longer allowed to comment on a comment to my own comment?

I do see the OP's point.
There are threads from 2016 - 2017 that still pop up here, but why would a thread from this month already be archived?

with lithium, who knows. as pointed out, original post 2014, but it wouldn't be the first time a current thread got archived.

Necro thread. 2014, as others have pointed out.
Many times, for whatever reason, someone will resurrect a long out dated thread to post a response, instead of starting their own thread since the one they found was so old.

I came to the forums. This topic was listed. By listed I mean this:
1. I click community at the bottom of a page and I am brought to the main Community Page.
2. Under the "discussions" header, this thread shows up. (that is the 'whatever reason" for it) I did not check the date, nor did I know that it was verboten to answer it as I was, indeed, able to comment on it.
3. I click the link provided by Lithium, read and comment on the discussion.
4. There is even a response to my comment!
5. Now I'm Dr Frankenstein? Come on guys, you can do better than that.
6. I know that Ebay is hopeless, and Lithium, my gawd, is useless in these issues, I was hoping for some insight so I don't waste my time (or yours) in the future.
7. thanks.

They were giving you insight as it likely was closed because it was an old thread that was resurrected and may have had outdated info in it. People often comment on old threads by mistake because a search on the boards comes up in a supposed ‘best match’ order. If you change it to search by date the results are usually more current.
