new international account buys an item....question

I asked the buyer for that reference number. Is this something they can see on their end and confirm? I figure it's one way to sort through a potential scam, even if there is no way sure way to do it.

Also how does eBay international shipping work? I've never shipped international before.

You sold the item through the Global Shipping Program.  You don't need to ask the buyer for anything. Just package the item up and ship it to KY. Ebay and Pitney Bowes take over from there.

Hi, sorry, I am not sure what reference number you mean.

As for shipping internationally, if the package is under four pounds, it can go First Class International thru USPS.

But I see your package is going to Erlanger, Kentucky which means you are enrolled in the Global Shipping Program. You will not be shipping this internationally. It goes to Kentucky where it will be forwarded to your buyer by PItney Bowes. You are only responsible to get it to Kentucky and they handle the international leg.

No, the buyer has no way to see that reference number. I'm not sure why you asked the buyer for it ... if you thought they would be able to confirm something with it, then no, they can't. The buyer doesn't need to know the ref. number, so they have no way to tell you what it is.

I don't see anything that indicates a scam here. Just a normal purchase for an item listed with the Global Shipping Program. The reference number has to be clearly printed on the shipping label, when you send it to the GSP warehouse in Erlanger, KY. That is how they identify which package it is, and know what the name and international shipping address of the buyer is so they can send it to them. The easiest way is to purchase the shipping label through eBay, and it will automatically be printed on the label. But, some sellers prefer to make their own labels, so they show the reference number in the purchase details.

I believe they mean the reference number that the gsp gives to the transaction.

I asked the reference number just to see:

1. communicate, see if they reply

2. confirm details.

3. new international buyer.

I plan to buy the shipping through eBay--I always do, or at least 99% of the time.

So the buyer won't see that Kentucky address?
