misuse of USPS products

I have sold for nearly 20 years. I appreciate the USPS supplying us free boxes and other materials. I also shop on ebay. Lately I am finding seasoned sellers using the USPS padded   flat rate envelopes as padding inside first class packaging. I find this disturbing as in the end we as consumers we will be forced to bear the cost in higher rates, along with the fact it is a fraudulent use of government property.  Initially when they started suppling us with free shipping materials they gave us tape. People promptly ordered it for personal usage, so we no longer have the use of free priority tape. People turned the boxes inside out so they could use them without having to ship priority. Now they print the inside of the boxes to prevent that. The postal service gives us a discount on shipping prices by shipping through ebay. We should not be taking advantage of that by basically stealing from their kindness.  Times are difficult but that is not a reason to deliberately misuse products. When someone has over 30,000 feedback the excuse cannot be made they were unaware of this usage. Let`s keep ebay a respectable business.

Correct. And you CAN Frank-n-box flat rate boxes, but they can't be used at the flat rate price, when you do. They are send regular priority price. I think you have to marker out the flat rate wording too.

But, why mess with flat rate boxes? Plenty of regular priority boxes to use as it is.

Or just turn inside out. Going to start doing it with regional boxes now. They're resized and got hit a couple times because of the barcode I'm guessing. Appealed and won the 3 times it's happened. After that would just sharpie out the barcode but then realized I can just turn it inside out. Cutting it and retaping it anyhow so not any extra work to do.

Really depends on how they are using the padded envelopes to pad with.

If they have been used (sticky strip shot, postage on it) it's a very green use of trash. They are only expected to be used once anyway.

If they are new and intact (unused sticky strip and clean) you are being sent free shipping supplies that you don't have to go retrieve. They aren't being used to wrongly ship, can be used, no big deal.

I would however, have a problem with them cutting up new unused padded envelopes to pad with. That would be a gross misuse of free priority shipping supplies.

I save my shipping supplies and sometimes re-use them.  You have to be careful that you're not accusing someone of using something that was already used.  Though I agree with you, I have seen people abuse the free supplies in the past.

I also disagree with that.  It's part of the reason why they have to keep increasing the cost of Priority shipping.  I won't report people but I make sure to never abuse the free supplies I'm given and re-use whenever possible.

I am not trying to accuse anyone of misuse when reusing packing materials. i support any reuse that enables us to avoid new expendatures. I'm glad people are still reading a rather old post. I hope it makes people think about what they use and how to best serve our planet.  i still feel over all our postal system gives us the best servive and value, although it seems to have lessened in some geological areas.  I have been fortunate to have excellent service and care in tmy local area. I'm sure the offering of free materials has some but not major effect on cost.  Many of the flrst rate service boxes can save customers a considerable amount of money. And I  still believe there are those who use the products in a way not intended in the offering. And I  believe they also know who they are. when brought to their attention. Wishing you much and more success .
