When you see a listing that you are interested in buying, be sure to check where it would say Paypal on the listing.  It won't say that.  The Paypal logo will not appear there.  It will just show the credit cards that the seller accepts.

If a seller is enrolled in ebay Managed Payments, you will be prompted to enter your credit card numbers directly at checkout. No other payment methods will be available, including Paypal.

It's best to check for this before you actually commit to buy, so you don't need to ask to cancel if you want to use Paypal and the seller does not offer it.

When you review a listing.  Click on the Shipping and Payment tab of the listing.

I'm glad you checked.  Best to know before you commit to a sale!  And it's easy to do, just check where the Paypal logo would be.  Very quick, if you don't see it, there's your answer!

Great question, OP!

But right now that missing PayPal logo could also mean the seller is using their own Merchant Account rather than the Ebay Managed Payments. That is what is confusing to me as a buyer: are they in Managed Payments or are they using their own Merchant Account? I did read the Merchant Accounts are going away but I didn't dig into it because it wasn't important at the time (saw it in the Site Preferences)

It won't be for long.  New accounts are not allowed their own merchant services anymore, and the ones that have it will no longer be able to use it.  I am not certain, but I think March was  to be the end of all that.

You're right, it would appear the same way, but if the buyer isn't interested in buying and using their credit card, they wouldn't buy from a seller with a merchant account, either, unless Paypal was an option.
