listing multiple quantities of the same item appears tedious and slow

it appears you have to go to variations, click on the identical attributes and options, then click continue, then scroll to the bottom and change the number in quantity. It went from "sell as lot " and " number of items" to a whole song and dance. Glad I don't have to do that often. Please correct me if anybody found an easier way.

Variations is not the right section for multi-quantity listings of the same item.

Right beside the box where you enter the price is the quantity field, it defaults to "1" but you can change it to whatever quantity you want to list.
