I have a bid on an item that has been listed twice. I emailed him and he said he was trying to get an offer on it and that he didn't think it was a problem . Well now someone has bid on the second one. So he isn't going to get an offer on it either. How does a seller handle this problem? I am going to probably get outbid, so I will wait it out. These items have specific numbers , so I know it is the same item.

Did you make an offer on one listing, and a different buyer made an offer on another listing? Same item, two different item #'s? If that's the case, the seller will probably end up with a defect on their account because they will have to cancel one of the sold item's order, for out of stock.

Two listings for one item and the seller admits there is only one item?
Stupid move since he now has two offers.
But doable.
He accepts one offer, refuses the other and ends the listing that he refused the offer on.
Or one of the Offers turns into a full price purchase.
He refuses the other and ends the listing .

They are both auctions.

He was trying to get an offer and my bid on the auction ended his chance of an offer. So he relisted it, trying to get an offer and someone bid on that one- thus ending his chance of getting an offer on that one.

Seller has to choose which auction he wants to continue and which one he wants to end.
The one he wants to end, cancel all bids, then end the auction.

Should I tell him this?

I can think of a few other things you should tell him.

No. Not your job.
Let the seller figure it out on his own.
Let the seller figure out how to handle 2 auctions with bids for the same item.

Thanks for your help.

Yes let him figure it out. If the other one ends with a higher price, you can be sure that he will sell it to the other guy and stiff you. Feel free to post a negative for him if this happens. He will learn to never do this again.

Or an Item Not Received claim, which takes longer.
Silly though.
If he had listed it as Fixed Price/ Offers Accepted he could have set parameters to accept or reject those Offers without difficulty.
It is, I believe, possible to have two concurrent Offers on a single FP listing?
