item unavailable to buyer when attempting to place order

Good morning!    I have a buyer who desires to purchase an item from me.  When he attempted to place the order this morning, he said it showed the item was unavailable.   
 I checked into it, and see that the order was placed, (by him at our agreed upon price), but my option is to send him an invoice directly.   
I am afraid this could be a scam, in order to obtain my personal information.  
The order is still "awaiting payment".  Should I cancel the order so that he could try to purchase, using his credit card or Pay Pal through the Ebay system?   Or cancel the order and block him.   
I have a gut feeling about this I can't shake.    Please send suggestions on how to handle.

I'd not invoice the buyer... eBay sends a payment reminder. If the order is under 'Awaiting payment'... just do that. Good luck.

Buyer should not obtain any "personal info" by you sending an invoice. (sent through eBay)

You do need to watch out for "false" payment notifications, but staying with the eBay payment verification would keep you safe on that aspect.

If you accepted the offer,.................  the mug?.................  it shows as sold.  They would not be able to purchase that which has already been sold. To me, that seems to be what they are trying to do which may be causing them to see...........  unavailable.

Just to note...........................  may not be an issue, but..................... when you send an invoice it will extend the time until you can cancel for non-payment.

Thank you everyone for your comments.  The issue has been resolved. Item is packaged and ready to ship this afternoon.

I just had the same problem to where it said the item was unavailable when purchased. It even went through on my card. Had to reach out to the seller to see if my order was even placed. Not sure if this is a new problem but still awaiting response from the seller
