is this a scam?

Right after a seller won my auction, he messaged me. The message was oddly worded, so I just wanted to confirm to see if this was legit:

Hello, This is sergeant nicholas, the buyer of your lovely item on ebay,

kindly text me, see the number below , so that we can talk about shipping and payment. Thanks

Yes it is a scam. 

There is no reason for the buyer to discuss payment with you. 

And IMHO calling himself "sergeant" was an intentional ploy to establish legitimacy.

Any time they want you to contact them outside of Ebay, they are planning on trying to scam you.

Add the ID to your blocked buyers list and cancel the order in five days for non-payment.
