Did you mean:

i think a buyer scammed me

How do I talk to a real person Ebay?

I have been on Ebay since it's inception and never had this happen. A buyer bought an item and right when I accepted the sale I received a message on Ebay from a very similar buyer name wanting me to send it to a different address. I did not realize it was not the same buyer ID, it was instantaneous with the sale. Today they messaged that he received a delivery notice and didn't know anyone at that address. I don't want to falsely accuse the buyer by filling out the forms reporting the buyer until I speak to someone who can confirm my suspicions. Please help!

You've been scammed. You are only supposed to ship to the address that prints out on label, no changes. The buyer, will now claim item not received, get his money back since you shipped to wrong address. Hopefully this was not an expensive mistake.

Did you change the address and ship? Not a wise decision, you should know since you’ve been with eBay since inception, that you lost what little seller protection eBay gives sellers by sending an item to an address other than what’s on the order.
If your true buyer opens an INR  you will lose.
Sorry, hope it was not an expensive lesson learned.

Hi @perfume101

There are definitely scammers (who have no relation to the actual buyer of an item) that send messages to sellers asking them to change the shipping address after they've noticed certain items have been sold.  [They hope that the seller doesn't realize that it's not the buyer who is asking.]

I think it's unlikely that your buyer would send a message using a similar Username to their own ... but I guess it's possible.

But regardless of WHO sent the 'change of address request' ... sellers should NEVER change an address without 1) cancelling the transaction, 2) relisting the item, and 3) having the buyer repurchase it, this time using the correct address at checkout.

Oh dear, I have changed an address before with no problems. It is so strange that someone emailed simultaneously with the address change! I have written to them to see if it was an honest mistake and they will ship it back to me, but in the meantime I want Ebay to get involved and to know what they did, if they don't respond. She has a good feedback 100% positive for 21 transactions. But if no response, isn't there a phone number or way to contact Ebay without reporting a buyer? That would be awful if it is not a scam. On the otherhand, If I don't hear back from her, how would I report her? She's not on my buyers list.

Still in all it is so odd that the timing was instant and she is tu_8436 and the real buyer is rr2991. It was the only transaction that I had at the time,.

Thanks so much for you help!!
