getting the buyer to pay

My buyer hasn't paid on a $1400 item  and I've tried all ebay's suggestions.  Can ebay threaten him with not being allowed to use ebay?

Was this the item you sold on May 14th? If so, you can open an unpaid item case in the Resolution Center, an action you can take if you've not been paid within 48 hours of the end of the listing.

Or is it the item you sold on May 20th? As explained above, buyers have at least 48 hours to pay.

Exactly what suggestions have you tried?

You really need to do more reading about what a seller can do when a buyer does not pay.  Having eBay "threaten him with not being allowed to use eBay" isn't one of those options.

No, eBay can't threaten somebody with a punishment like that, since it's not how the process for unpaid items works.

Read this 2021 Spring Update issued by eBay that discusses new procedures for unpaid items.

@alame-9744

you don’t want to pressure the buyer into paying - that’s a great way to get a bad feedback entry, a return for INAD, or worse.

From the update:

A quicker, more streamlined way to handle unpaid items

We’re introducing this new function to help you resolve unpaid item cases quicker and with less work.

We’ll proactively remind buyers to pay once they commit to purchasing an item.

  • If a buyer hasn’t paid after 5 calendar days, you can cancel the transaction.
  • You can choose to have eBay automatically relist the item when you cancel the transaction.
  • You’ll be able to set up automatic cancellations for non-payment in your “Preferences for items awaiting payment.”
  • If you cancel an order because the buyer hasn’t paid, we’ll block that buyer’s ability to leave feedback and, if they’ve already left feedback, we’ll remove it.

How to use the new cancel function

There is no action required from you to take advantage of this new function. If a buyer hasn’t paid after 5 calendar days, we’ll prompt you to cancel the transaction using the “Buyer hasn't paid” reason in Seller Hub or My eBay Sold.

If you attempt to file an unpaid item case in the Resolution Center after this update takes effect, you’ll automatically be redirected to Seller Hub to cancel the transaction directly using the “Buyer hasn't paid” reason.

Your sale from 5/3?? You can now cancel the order and are free to relist immediately... plus the buyer gets a UI Strike.

Afterthought... cite that the buyer has not paid for the order when you cancel. Good luck.

Based on the evidence on this id, we're looking at an inexperienced seller with a listing that has very odd shipping arrangements, at a listing price of $1,500, and apparently not familiar with selling to know how to resolve an unpaid item dispute. What could possibly go wrong?

Hi the link below tells what to do when a buyer doesn't pay. The policy was recently updated and the procedure has changed. Now a seller can cancel a non- paying buyer’s transaction after 4 calendar days have passed. No longer necessary to open an Unpaid item Dispute.

When a buyer commits to buy, Ebay automatically charges the seller for the Final Value fees, even if the buyer did not actually remit yet. So it is important to stay on top of non-payers to get those fees credited back to your account.

As for the consequences to buyers who fail to pay, they receive a non-payment strike on their account.

Failure to pay is a violation of the Abusive Buyer Policy, and is frowned upon by eBay. (Tho eBay often does not act on such violations.) Occasionally we hear of buyers getting suspended for chronic non-payment behavior.

But the most helpful consequence is for the benefit of savvy sellers who have their Buyer Requirements set to block serial non-payers. See the second link below for more info.
