this was a message I got on one of the items I was bidding on and it said I would be charged one hour after listing ended. it didnt even have the correct billing as it was an item i was buying for resale. I use different cards for different businesses. How do I get ebay not to do this on my purchases? can the seller? and dont just say put in the right pmt at the beginning. I dont always know at the beginning. if it is cheap enough I will sell on poshmark cause it will sell the quickest but it has to be cheap cheap to sell there.
I had a buyer ask me about it and I told her to contact ebay. she says it is a new policy.
ebay is determined to get rid iof all the smaller sellers. only sellers from china and india who sell billions of junk all looking the same. why dont they ask the sellers? i was at the conference, I did not hear one peep about this. I would know right away it would stop a lot of buyers.
On the community forum, where you are not signed in, there are postings about this issue with complaints about the wrong pmt method being charged. and what is this all about? they hadnt been contacteed.

As a seller you can opt-out of requiring that on your items.

There is the option to change your payment source before hitting the buy now or pay now button.
Fail to understand how any of this is affecting most small businesses, you not being able to supposedly change your payment source depending on what the final cost might be or which business you might end up buying it for so you can resell for a profit. I would think that could be done in bookkeeping using one card.
You more than likely didn't hear anything because that is not how majority business would operate, depending on the final cost which business card they would pay for it with.

Reading the OP's post, they seem to have several business/cards they use and don't know which one they are using till winning the bidding or seeing the final cost.
With the cost of shipping, does not sound like a sustainable way to replenish inventory business model anyway.

Every time I make a purchase I am given the choice of what payment method I will use and then I choose.
So if it is a auction you will be charged one hour after the listing ended? During this one hour period does eBay allow you to go ahead and pay for the item as you usually would and chose the payment method?
On occasion I will receive a payment due notice from eBay that states the payment will be deducted from my default payment source the next day. I go ahead and make the payment and I am able to decide where the payment will come from. At least this is a good amount of notice before my default payment method is used and I have time to change payment source.
Seems like you should still be able to choose you payment source, but you only have a hour to do so. You will have to be very attentive to your auction purchases since you will be alternating payment sources.

There's some more on this issue here and some changes that may be coming. Probably rolled out slowly like ebay tends to do:

You can if you are the seller but the OP was the buyer in this case.

Thank you for the very helpful critique of my post.
The OP is also a seller.
I offered that information because I saw this statement in the original post:
"I had a buyer ask me about it and I told her to contact ebay. she says it is a new policy."
Not to mention the fact that they seem to be very unhappy about the new policy when they said:
"ebay is determined to get rid iof all the smaller sellers. only sellers from china and india who sell billions of junk all looking the same. why dont they ask the sellers? i was at the conference, I did not hear one peep about this. I would know right away it would stop a lot of buyers. "
I thought the OP might be interested in some FACTS about the policy.
Thanks again. Very helpful.

Not a problem just didn't want the OP to think that as the buyer they had the ability to turn it off as well.

I think my statement was clear enough:
As a seller you can opt-out of requiring that on your items.

I am thinking a lot of those here who are posting do not bid on auctions so don't understand the problem.
This is a test in the market of auctions on eBay...which a seller has no control over.
There is no magic button for a seller to turn this off.
I bid and wins auctions all the time.
About a month ago it happened to me...it's a real clock ticking down from an hour to the second that is being shown to the buyer.
If buyer doesn't do anything in the 'hour' the payment will be done by eBay with the 'last credit card or source' used.
I purchased items from same 'seller' a few days before this auction and after this test and also I had auctions won with other sellers. This happened so far(knock on wood) one time.
I also asked this particular seller by numerous emails and they stated they do not have automatic payments.

No clarification was needed. People can read.
I took the time to read the original post in its entirety and chose to offer something to address the concerns the OP mentioned as a seller.
Once again:
The OP is also a seller.

There is no opt-out of this testing by eBay for sellers.
I contacted a seller I buy from every month.
This sell is opt-out but eBay is testing this of selected sellers and buyers.

Nothing in this statement can possibly make anyone think I was suggesting anything about preventing that as a buyer:
"As a seller you can opt-out of requiring that on your items."
That's not a difficult sentence for anyone to understand.
