Why does Ebay add postage to the final value fee. It is not profit, say I sell something for $50 and it cost $12 to ship, Ebay charges fees on $62. That does not seem right, because shipping is an expense.

Years ago, some sellers were cheating eBay out of their fees by doing things like charging $1 for an item and $99 for shipping, thereby paying only $0.10 in fees instead of the $10 that they really owed.
So you can thank the sellers that tried to “cheat the system “ for shipping being included in the final value fees.

Including what Glorybells stated; the fee if for the cost of the item to the customer. If you sell a $10 item with $5 shipping, and I sell it for $15 with Free Shipping, why should you get charged less? Free shipping is a 'push' from ebay, something they want, so the last thing they would do is reward those that charge for shipping.

Along with what glory posted................. I sell the item for $62 with "free shipping"(because some buyers like free shipping), and you, and I pay the same FVF that way.
