sakic92710 that is because ebay has an algorithm. I recently proved it. I have 3900 items listed. I have always had my ad rate set at 5%. Earlier this week I took 1k items and increased them to 20% ad rate on items that I want to move. My traffic has skyrocketed. Also, my sales are up by 60%. More viewers on items that have been sitting in my store for 3 years or more.

Exactly and as I had stated in other responses it's a race to the bottom. OP has a current advantage/edge but what happens to that advantage/edge when other sellers increase to 20% and the playing field once again levels? Does OP then increase to 30% to regain the advantage/edge?

@texashobbyshop You should not compare or suggest to him using ad rates. They DO NOT need to use it as nothing he sells is in a saturated market. I am glad it works for you, but your post confuses many people into thinking they must pay to get items sold.

@dbfolks166mt No, OP does not increase again but waits until all their competitors sell out at prices where they lose money .... then the OP Relists dropping his PL % and is still one up on the competition because for them to recover their loss their new inventory would have to be sold for MORE than what the OP is listing for ... it is a rather bold and inventive strategy although it takes time to accomplish ...

Or he/she becomes one of those that sells out their inventory while loosing money. If you take a look at some of the OP's sold items profit margin comes into question in some instances.

All you have proven is that PL works for you and you sell in a few narrow niches that are pretty saturated which are the exactly the category niches that PL is designed for. But kudos if you have the margins to absorb that additional 20%.

Yes, eBay has an algorithm. As a matter of fact, they have thousands, actually millions of them. All an "algorithm" is, is a calculation or formula, or a series of them. It is quite literally what coding is. Code does not exist without algorithms (for the most part). Algorithms are practically synomous with programming itself, so this is not exactly news. I'm not sure what you were intending to say, except that PL's worked for you.
But eBay, like ALL co's that have code, has millions of algorithms, yes. This is not news. It is virtually impossible to have computer programs without algorithms.

We did the same thing a while back - I even started a thread on it, stating we took all of ours to 10-12%.
Worked DANDY for a while. BUT, guess what? Evidently everyone else has also raised theirs, so we are back to it not doing much. I am tapped OUT - NOT going to now raise it to 15% and so on and so on.........
I am pretty much fed up with how this is set up. I would rather set everything out on the street and let folks take it home before I give e-Bay any more money than I already am. ENOUGH, already!

They would have offer free pick-up and handle all of the listing & shipping to even consider a % like that.
I hear Wal-Mart is emptying stores at $0.50 for all items...sounds like a tragedy trend.

I know what you mean, the ad rates for my DVD's have jumped to 10% on average. In some cases ebay's suggested ad rates have now eclipsed the 24% mark with own listings.
How much of the sale does ebay want? 100%?

Supply chain issues - think of it as a giant slinky - when there's pressure on one part, the other part has to give and stretch, and this is post-pandemic logistics problems. Now we have just what we need in our overloaded landfills, more Walmart trash that no one wants.
