When listing items after entering the UPC at the top of the page ebay puts catalog specifics there and prefills them for you. When I clear the check box to NOT use the catalog and submit my listing the catalog prefills are there anyways overriding what I entered with wrong information. A lot of UPC numbers are shared across multiple items. For example: M2 machines 1970 Dodge and 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle will have identical UPC numbers and are prefilled with 1968 Dodge. I can't get rid of the 1968 Dodge! The only fix I see is not entering a UPC number and entering "does not apply".
Can I opt out of the catalog? I don’t think it’s good ebay putting in the wrong information.

Ebay will hold you responsible for any misinformation ..even if it is their fault.
I would not list the item here.

There is a box you can uncheck so that the prefilled info isn't used. It will then pop up a window so you can submit any changes to the catalog. This happens occasionally when ebay decides there are 2 discs for a CD when the CD was never released as 2 discs. I uncheck it and submit the info to the catalog. Then I have to go in and fill in all the correct info when listing.
