ebay forcing sellers into guaranteed delivery

Just got this email. Better check your preferences. I will be opting out immediately.  Some people have actual jobs and lives and can't do 1 day handling. Getting old them shoving this junk down our throats!

We’re contacting you today to share the exciting news that you have earned a spot in eBay Guaranteed Delivery because of your consistent on-time handling performance. Between May 1 and May 31, your listings that already meet Guaranteed Delivery requirements will feature a guaranteed delivery date backed by eBay. We’ll contact you again in May once this change takes place.

As you may know, eBay Guaranteed Delivery is the program that lifts listing visibility and sales potential by allowing buyers to filter for listings guaranteed to arrive in three days or less.

I got the email as well. I am willing to let ebay take the risk through May, after that, depending on how it goes, I may keep it, I may not.  If I am opt out at anytime.

I am pretty sure that it will be of no benefit for me. I live on the West Coast, 3 days to the East Coast? Sometimes, Sometimes not.

I would be personally checking tracking dates, because I bet you eBay will not disclose which items they paid on for late arrival's.

Don't Like it, don't like it one bit.  Items I am shipping First Class Mail are taking 4 to 5 days to get to some locations.  I will be opting out as soon as I am able.  I am not going to rely on the convoluted United States Postal Service to make deliveries on time.  In my experience, I have seen packages get frequent flyer miles by going back and forth between PO distribution center, then back to the local PO and then back to the distribution center, and finally getting delivered 6 or 7 days later.  Nope don't like it, don't like it one bit.

I always keep an eye on the tracking of packages I mail out, so that wouldn't be a problem at all.   I don't leave my feedback until the day purchases are delivered.

In my commodity store I opted in at the very beginning, handling time only.  IDK how many were delivered late, as it's Ebay's dime that covers any cost.  I have not gotten any messages at all about late delivery.   In this store, no GD as many of my items go as letter mail without tracking.

I'm the same way. Most of my packages including priority take more than 3 days to arrive. Last 4 transactions on this account. I didn't cherry pick sales.

From Maine 

1st class 1st till 5th WY   5 days

priority 9th till 12th TN    4 days

Priority 12th till 16th VA   5 days

Standard 16th still in route to KY  8 days

I would have burned myself with eBay's guaranteed 3 day delivery and what's worse is that all of these shipments are near me. I think eBay is doing this because they are getting desperate to keep this program going. If they can show fake numbers of an increase in participation to board members, then they can keep the feature going while hoping members will continue using it.

isn't the program, saying that ebay would pay if they are late?...if there were an issue?..so why would you care either way?... you do the same..the package goes...and USPS does what it does...if late then ebay pays if there is an issue by the buyer correct?  if you opt out , then you'd pay if there was an issue and had to come out of your pocket....SO I guess I need to read up on it more...it costs nothing, I do the same as always, and if there is an issue i might not have to pay for the return shipping..am I right here?..... I know there are criteria for some , and some stores may not be able to do 1day handling(?)...so I see that isn't so good...BUT I don't see the issue...to be in the program...and i believe you can opt out at anytime after...so what can it hurt to see what happens and how it might work?  But guress that's just me...

So it says... you have to have 30 days returns so it's possible eBay would pay for the label back if that's what the buyer wants.

i have a great PO and they never miss a scan so that helps.

I am undecided at this point what to do. Hopefully by May the full truth will come out.

This reminds me of a time when Pizza delivery was advertised "If not delivered in 30 min it will be free". I had friends starting a stop watch, because they wanted someting for free. I seen car wrecks, because the poor kid needing a job was driving to fast to get the Pizza delivered on time.

Ebay pays if you do your part and the item ends up being late. Also, ebay will remove any negative feedback related to it.

-The issue for me was that it requires immediate payment. Id' say probably 20% of my sales are of people that don't pay immediately so I'm not sure it's worth keeping.
