Rather new to this ebay stuff and wanted to hear from you all experts.
I, the seller (selling my inherited items), sold an vintage train set, stated issues of the train in the description.
Buyer buys it, wants refund - he found issues that was stated in descriptions.
I should note - buyer is completey new to eBay - no previous Feedbacks - and has a weird long name, unsure if this is a guest name?
Buyer contacts me first, and I verify, "as it is listed in the description - these were the issues the set had" ...
Buyer confirms, this is the issues! I say go ahead - you get a refund.
To go more in detail - the set derails, stated 5 times in the description, the set will derail, it got some issues with the wheels...
My return polices is return accepted but buyer pays shipping.
He then goes ahead and marks it as defect!?
Meaning I ? get to pay for everything including first and return shipping!?
Is there any point in opening a case?
"ask ebay to step in" ?
or report the buyer?
Reading all these posts, It feels like I am out of luck and this seller just screwed me over.
The item is a 70 usd item, marked down from other sellers selling same item as "new" for 200 ...
I am tho, willing to pay one side of the shipping, as in good faith. But I am not willing to pay both, FYI the shipping cost landed on 18 one way (USPS).
Suggestions?
Thank you.

If the buyer files "not as described" (even though it was as described) you are on the hook for paying return shipping. It does not matter what the buyer sends back in that box. The return policy that you have, is negated by the "not as described" claim. Calling ebay will be an automatic lose for the seller and will also result in a performance strike against you for "case without seller resolution".

ittybitnot is 100% CORRECT. Ebay no longer honors their own seller protection which states you are protected when you mention flaws in your Ad that the buyer is complaining about. I am so beyond disgusted with them right now. I am dealing with same situation today. I sold a Gray latch advertised 4 times in Ad as being GRAY and buyer filed a False SNAD saying he thought it would be BLACK. Ebay refused to back me up and said I had to accept it. CS Rep said I can call Appeals to have the Fake SNAD removed, but in my past experience they say they will remove it and then never do.
I had the same issue a week ago on a different sale, I called Appeals on the fake SNAD for a reimbursement on my incurred return shipping costs and after AN HOUR ON THE PHONE discussing the matter I finally got a $20 Ebay Store Credit which the CS rep said she would call me back within 48 to 72 hours to give me the Code .....ain't heard a thing from her but crickets thus far.

I would report the buyer and then call eBay. I just heard of one recent case in which eBay decided in the seller's favor, so it's still possible. If they don't decide in your favor, they might give you a credit for the shipping, which would be better than nothing.

It's been reported on this Board that Ebay stopped mediating these cases in June of this year.

or report the buyer? - Yes, report the buyer for misusing the Money Back Guarantee.

If you want the item back then you have to pay return shipping and issue a full refund upon receipt. Your only other option is to refund in full without requiring the return. When you get it back relist it for more $ to cover part of your shipping loss (if the market will support a higher price).
Suggestions?
Accept the return.

If the buyer acknowledged the issues listed in the original listing are the reasons for the return, provided it is documented in communications via ebay, you can dispute the return. There is a 50/50 chance you will win the dispute.
With that said, if you lose the dispute, the buyer may end up with all of their money back and the train set.
My recommendation is to take the item back and I believe others will make the same recommendation. Report the buyer for abusing the SNAD system and eat the shipping costs.
In the future, though not helpful relative to SNAD claims as they can ALWAYS be made, when you list something that is defective & has issues, be very detailed (as you were in this case) and ALWAYS list the item as sold as pictured, as described with defects for parts or repair NO RETURN. That will run off most buyers who are expecting something to be other than what you say it is. Except when I mess up (meaning I forget to make the appropriate listing notations on no return etc) I always list non-working items in this way and have had no problems with return requests nor SNAD requests on these bits.... and I get & sell a lot of them, especially in the watch area.
Sorry this happed - btw NICE Olympus setup. Thinking about getting something like that for my daughter in law for Christmas. She is artsy and I tried to explain to here that old school 35mm has a quality and texture that digital still can't match - I just have to get momma to let me spend the money 🙂
It really should be pointed out that winning an eBay case hardly means the battle is over. A PayPal dispute and a credit card chargeback are still on the table and eBay can’t protect the seller from those.

Based on other posts that I've read, once you have received the item back and refunded, you can appeal the return. If ebay agrees with you, they will credit the cost of the return shipping.

I think instead of credits they're issuing coupons to use on eBay.com with a short expiration date. Better than nothing, I guess?

Right...I had read that and forgotten. I would rather have the credit but yes..a coupon is better than nothing.

Wanted to thank all of you for the feedback and help.
The return has been accepted and he has shipped the item!
Will report the user, but have a feeling it's a guest account or something, so might not matter.
Might or might not contact eBay, time will tell when I get the return back and deppending if I feel in the mood to fight for it or just shrug it off.
Also I just (I think) blocked off users with a feedback score of 0 to buy something from me, this is the second time it has happened under a short period of time, both with high shipping cost.
Sure I have a couple 0 in feedback score that been amazing and giving me great feedback back, but i can't afford losing $30-40 on all returns, Because they have a change of heart or are to stupid to figure out how to place batteries the correct way lol.
Also wanted to thank you Juststuffisell, you cheered me up yesterday! Thank you 🙂 I was about to close down the store and leave eBay, but instead going to list more items today! Cheers to you!

Not sure what you think you did to block 0 fb bidders, but it is not possible to block them, so you did something else.
