eBay might not be for everyone ...

There seems to be a rash of don’t worry listings as well as there are reason listings/ postings of why your sales may/ might be down, here in the sales forum and some of them are missing the point.  Weather you do this as a hobby or for a living there a few things you need to remember, which fall into Sales 101. If you are not following a few simple rules I have listed below you may (may) want to re-think your strategy.

  1. Are the items you are selling listed at a price comparable or less than others?
  2. Are there more than 10 of the same items you are listing being sold at this time?
  3. Can the buyer you are going for get that same item cheaper and easier than from you?

If you are answering yes to more than one of these questions, you might want to rethink your selling strategy.

And most importantly is yours the best item / dollar for dollar on eBay. That includes, description, picture, and yes MORE pictures and a sales record to make people want to buy from you.

Remember, the eBay experience for a lot of shoppers can be from impluse to the i must havve shopper.  To include allowing people to find items either on-the-fly and or specific items that they need and can not find in there geographically isolated area. For example, a small auto parts store in town or worse none at all.  E-commerce has exploded and there are multiple sites that offer the same or more of what you and eBay are selling. Don’t look for the “Jeannie to pop out of the bottle,” Here on these pages.  Everyone will have similar and unique experiences.  You will need to adjust your listings and prices accordingly.

ALWAYS, Give the people what they want. Ensure your cost to profit ratio is above board, and when it is all said and done figure your out what you would be making per hour, and eBay might not be the answer for everyone. Good Luck!

I would say the "being sold" part doesn't matter anywhere near as much as the "have sold" part does.  I can't tell you how many things I've walked right by in the thrift store because there were 75 of them listed but only three had sold in the past three months.  If there are 75 listed and 40 have sold in the past three months, then heck yeah, go for it.  Otherwise, don't even waste your time and money.
