eBay is splitting up the orders randomly

Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? I've had 1 or 2 customers each day who place orders that eBay splits up for no reason. And yes I'm certain that eBay is splitting them up and the customer isn't placing separate orders because a) one order contains the shipping cost while the other order is free shipping (which I don't offer) - b) I have automatic discounts in my store depending on how many items you purchase and eBay will split the order so that all but 1 item is on one order and the second order is for a single item but gets the multi item discount - and c) I asked several of them. The biggest issue is that the fact that the order goes thru as 2 separate orders and 2 separate payments in PayPal so I'm getting charged 2 transaction fees. Sure it's "just" .35 but multiply that by 365 as it is literally happening every day (that's $127.75 in case you don't have a calculator handy - not such a small amount any more). I've called eBay but the operator(s) that I've spoken with don't seem to understand what I'm saying and just keep telling me that the customer is placing multiple orders, which I know is not the case.

Anyone else have this going on or am I just the lucky winner of another eBayscrewedme lottery?

It has not happen to us yet.  But you could be right you never know.  They could be doing it to get more money out of us sellers.  Best regards

I just noticed some of my listings have "immediate payment required" although I do NOT have that box checked in any of my business payments policies. It must be a glitch because it`s not consistent and it could be causing your issue although I am not positive of that. You can check your each of your listings shipping tabs one by one and see if it states "immediate payment required". No matter what I have done to try and edit out the glitch....I`ve been unsuccessful.

Ebay adds the IPR on listings that are less than $1,000.00; they started this last summer, I believe.

I realize what you are saying is factual and since that change we were still able to add those item to the shopping cart to combined. I`m posting a couple screenshots of 2 nearly identical itms in my store. Both have identical shipping,payment and return policies yet one listing has "immediate payment required" and one does not. Although ebay made the change you mentioned nearly a year ago I have never seen "immediate payment required" in any of my listings until today. As I stated previously....some listings show it and some don`t. I`m just a little bothered by the inconsistency of it. I have no way of testing it to see if it`s creating issues in the shopping cart.Capture 1.PNGCapture.PNG

From experience, I can tell you that the forced IPR causes issues for the buyer, too.

Tried to buy two similar items last year, listing said request combined shipping.  Could not use cart because of the IPR that seller did not put on listing.  She couldn't remove it.  These were OOAK items and I was afraid I would lose them.

It was quite some time later that the seller sent me an offer on each item from the first email I sent on each one saying the IPR wouldn't let me request a total~it just wanted me to pay~I accepted, and she then sent an invoice to pay.  Yes, she could have refunded excess shipping but this was just a mess.  Seller did not put the IPR on, tried to get it off, unsuccessfully, when she did not even know it was there!

Dang, I thought they had that all fixed. This type of thing is making it difficult to sell and buy. You stated "Yes, she could have refunded excess shipping but this was just a mess". I agree, and had she refunded you the excess shipping ebay wouldn`t have refunded their cut of what was originally paid. That is probably why the issue hasn`t been fixed.

eBay is splitting up the orders randomly

I have had this happen recently. In my case I was the buyer. I had picked out 9 magazines and I had a total of over $100, which qualified the purchase for 6 months interest free using the PayPal Credit option. I selected this option and completed the purchase. When I checked my Purchase History on eBay this single, one click purchase was listed as two purchases, one for 8 magazines that came to a total of around $90 and then a separate order for the other magazine. All mags were in stock and are being shipped together. There is a single tracking number. There is no logical reason to have broken the single order into two orders. I have contacted PayPal to see how the transaction registered on their end. It should be a single transaction that qualifies for 6 months interest free. Waiting to hear back. The other question is which entity is breaking the order up, eBay or PayPal. And why.

I’ve run across a few in the last month that were not IPR. I hate that things are not consistent.

@midwestlysnipes

This is an old topic from last year. It's usually better to start a new topic so your question doesn't get lost.

I think I read once that there are limits to how many items the shopping cart will allow you to pay for at once. I don't remember any of the details though... brian@ebay can you help out here?

Hi @beardedbovine, while there are some limits, this situation doesn't sound like a limit issue. There are a couple reasons why an order may be split, such as if some of the listings in the order have different shipping services from one another or if some listings have Guaranteed Delivery and others do not. It sounds like one of these may be the likely reason the order was split.

I'm going to lock this thread due to its age. If anyone would like to continue discussing this topic then please create a new thread. Thanks!
