eBay obviously looks the other way for some sellers that are blatantly violating duplicate listing policy (actually multiple fixed price listings for same item) apparently because these sellers have a store and purchase promoted listings... The duplicate (multiple) listing violations have been reported more than once to eBay 'customer service' but to no avail... I am an honest seller that follows eBay rules and policy, and I always strive to be courteous and go above and beyond for my buyers. But I now no longer have a desire to sell here due to flagrant disregard by eBay of their own policies and no support, among numerous other issues too, while trying to maintain balance on such a tilted platform...

After 20 years on eBay I agree "some" sellers definitely are "protected" its kind of like a form of cronyism.
Perhaps you should read some Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx they were making some pretty good guesses as to how capitalism would "pan out" over 100+ years ago.
Good luck!

While I agree that the rules aren`t clear or evenly enforced.....duplicate listings and promoted listings are 2 different animals in ebays eyes. To clarify:
Duplicate listing= 2 identical items a SELLER has created either to A) purposely to manipulate search or B) unwittingly created (both can result in account violations)
Promoted listing= 2 identical listings from the same seller created by EBAY and paid for by the seller to manipulate the search. (pay to play, NO account violation)
So basically, ebay is all for breaking their own duplicate listing policy as long as it benefits ebay and sellers are willing to pay more out of desperation to make a sale.

+1, Great Point.
From the buyer perspective its hard to see any difference between a promoted listing duplicate and seller generated duplicate. In fact, the promoted listing seems more spammy (imo).

Thank you for your response and clarification between duplicate and promoted listings. However, the seller has multiple listings or MORE than two (2) fixed priced listings for selling the same exact item, not just two for same item. So even if the paid promoted listing is not counted as a duplicate listing, seller is in violation of duplicate listing policy and obviously did create them to purposely manipulate, inhibit and suppress other sellers listings in the search. But eBay hasn't done, and I don't think will do, anything about it.

I don`t doubt what you say. As a buyer and seller I have seen what you describe and IMO it`s pretty widespread. I have seen several threads here lately where some sellers are being reprimanded for dupes. Hopefully ebay is cleaning up the site.

I've seen page length of duplicate listings by the same seller, maybe ebay thinks he promoted them too much.
