Almost no one uses feedback anymore, except a tiny percentage of buyers.
Out of the last 100 sales we might get 5 positive feedback, sometimes more sometimes less.
The feedback system was put out to pasture years ago, why does ebay still even use it.
Suddenly if you have a random issue with a buyer it becomes a train wreck.
Because so few post feedback anymore just one negative (in this scenario) results in 20% negative percentage for the month, And as any experienced seller knows once you get one negative its a magnet for anxious buyers..
The mobile view of listings only shows FB numbers not comments, so the worst will be assumed by the buyers, its all visual to the buyer. It raises chances of getting a second , then you have a 40% negative feedback ratio for the month. 40%! This creates an undo distrust and anxiety among buyers. System needs to be fixed, such as auto positives for all transactions after 60 days. so it displays proportionally correct and useful numbers for buyers to make decisions by.
End rant.

Absolutely agree, Get rid, used as an extortion tool mostly, partial refunds was invented because of the " fear " of Negative feedback, absolutely useless now as Chinese sellers have these removed by the bucket load, Who really cares about the ill informed opinion of some of these people, i have seen so many relating to delivery times, absolutely nothing to do with a seller but there it is !
A lot of the problems here today would vanish tomorrow with the removal of the totally one sided feedback policy.

Agree plus its an opens door for competitors to trash your account for FREE, its just a bad bad system all around, because of the 'money back' guarantee a competitor can trash your account with zero risk or cost to them. at the end of the day it creates a negative buyer experience and makes ebay less competitive..

Could be referring to the fact that a competitor is able to buy from you, receive the item, open a not as described case and then trash your feedback.

How would eliminating feedback get rid of a lot of the problems?

I sure feel your pain, I have been trying to figure out why so many buyers are just to plain lazy to leave positive feedback for people. Some believe it on not just do not know how to do it. I have on a few occasions reached out to buyers to ask if everything was ok cause they did not leave feedback and quite a few said they did not know how and after I explained it to them they did leave feedback. I always put a nice note in each order about feedback and when I started doing this I did start to receive about 10% more. Thinking about adding a feedback contest in my notes where if you leave feedback you will be entered into a drawing, just a thought. I really like your idea of ebay doing an automatic positive after 90 days that would make a lot of sense to do that I think sellers should flood the boards asking for it. Sellers are getting less and less support from ebay. Now I really do not believe they should do away with it as it does have a purpose so like you suggested a revamp is in order.

Ebay has ways to weed out bad buyers like that so it may work in the short run but won't last. Plus you would block them the first time and possibly get the feedback removed.

It would eliminate the petty “who leaves feedback first” disputes and all the aggravation that come with them.
It would eliminate using feedback as an intimidation tool for both sellers and buyers (yes, sellers can only leave positive feedback but we see members every week who don’t know that).
As OP mentioned, it would eliminate feedback interference from competing sellers and vengeful buyers.
Between the members who don’t leave it anymore, the apparent ease witch which it’s easy for certain types of sellers to clean their negative feedbacks and eBay not even using it anymore in evaluating sellers, I feel feedback in its current state complicates things more than it helps.

It's more automated than that. Ebay has software to weed out problem buyers. There is this thread here https://community.ebay.com/t5/Buying/Activity-on-your-account-didn-t-follow-our-Abusive-buyer-policy... where the buyer had so many returns that Ebay banned her from doing any more.

Lazy? You are owed money from the buyer but nothing else. Passing moral judgements on your paying customers does not reflect kindly on you.

Couldn't we accomplish the same goal by just not ever leaving feedback or expecting to receive feedback?
But then there would be at least one person here who would then have nothing to post about.
