Hello everyone,
I just received a message in my inbox stating "you need to update some details on your account".
Acknowledging this is for taxing purposes, I quickly supplied all of the necessary info including my:
- Tax I.D.
- Social Insurance Number
- Address, etc.
Yet, one field that eBay asked me to upload was a piece of government-issued photo I.D. . At the time,
the only current I.D. that I had on me was a Health Card. So, I scanned both sides of the card, submitted
to eBay - only to get the same error message as stated above.
Without an up-to-date driver's license or Passport, I was left with no other option than to visit my local Service Ontario just to apply for a standard Photo I.D. card.. Two weeks and $35 later, my card arrived,
I scanned both sides and resubmitted to eBay. Same error message.
At this point, should I just contact eBay themselves? I have hundreds of dollars on hold and it's starting to really frustrate me.
Thank you.

Does everything on the photo ID card match everything else you submitted before? Names must be same as in eBay...addresses must be the same as in eBay and on bank routing number. Your account has been around for a while. Is it possible you changed info on the ID that is not the same as in your eBay account when you open it?...Just a thought.

Short answer is yes you need to contact a Managed Payments specialist to find out what the problem is.
Also, you would be better off posting the question on the Canadian boards instead of US AND if you do contact eBay it's imperative that you make them aware that you are registered in Canada and NOT the US.
Also take note that the full name you use on eBay must be an exact match with your ID.

My account address matches my current government-issued photo I.D. The only thing I had to go back and change was the contact number for my shipping address.
In the 9 years that I have had my eBay account, I have not changed addresses.
So, once everything seemed up-to-date (once again), I resubmitted. Again: same old error message.
Any other ideas? I don't plan on applying for a passport or renewing my driver's license just to sell on eBay.

What people mean by "exact" is just that. You cannot have variations of your name on the paperwork. One piece cannot be in the name of "John Robert Smith," and another in the name of "John R. Smith" or "J.R. Smith." Some people have even run into problems if one piece of paperwork had a period after an initial and another one did not.

Some of these photo ID cards are difficult to read with all sorts of colors, reflections, and watermarks. Be sure that the bots scanning the submittals can read what is on both the front and back of the card and can easily detect the edges of the card. Make sure the card is well aligned, straight on (a scanner is best), and not askew.
Some months ago, a seller was piecemealing their documents in the same manner. They finally re-uploaded all the same documents again and were successful.
