eBay Scam

eBay is deducting money from my savings instead of my checking, and I was not able to fix this problem on my own through the website, so after searching for a seller's customer service number, I found one as the top search result on Google.  I called it, they had me download anydesk app, which is a legitimate app.  After reading the notifications, I said I am not comfortable and stopped the process, but now I am having to lock all my accounts to prevent my money from being stolen.  If eBay provided real customer service I would not have had to search for a way to speak to a representative on the internet.  Also, the website I got the number at was first to appear on the search.  Shame on you eBay for not providing service to your clients.  You are quick to make money off of sellers, but not to help them when they need help.  I'm done with eBay!

Now I'm getting random texts with "funny" video  links.

eBay Scam

Ouch. It sounds as if you opened the wrong door. The 'googled' numbers have been linked to scammers.

You can reach out to qualified eBay C/S beginning with a message on the eBay facebook page. Real eBay employees with the knowledge and resources to help you can be found there and reply quickly with intelligible messages. Answer at your own time, escalate if necessary.

As to deductions being made from savings... that sounds odd. Your MP should be set for your checking account. Hmmm...

Edit to add: DON'T press any of the links in those messages. Delete them. Good luck.

ummm, you would have had to give them the account number to do that.  They didn't just magically find it and use it.  So either you made a mistake or you made a mistake.

OK, don't take ressponsibility, don't buy or sell, and let your account die.   There is no plan B.

eBay Scam

I found one as the top search result on Google.

SCAM!!

I don't understand why you went to Google instead of the Help & Contact link at bottom right.

You can reach eBay employees at

https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/eBay/

There is no charge for this.

These reps work directly for eBay and are well-trained with some authority.

You really really really don't want to talk to a phone rep.

They are subcontractors working out of their kitchens in Utah. Nice people, but undertrained and working on a quota. They want to get you off the phone.

There is also a choice in Help &Contact, at the bottom of this page and most others, for Chat.

Like FB and Twitter, Chat is a written /email conversation with actual employees. And you get a transcript of the discussion which you can review to see if what you were told is what you thought you were told.

If you want to contact eBay customer support, you should ONLY do that through the eBay website.

You should not call unverified numbers you find on the internet.

You're lucky you didn't go any further with that fake eBay number, it was definitely a scam!  While there are 'hidden', legit numbers to call, you can easily contact eBay through the 'Contact Us' link at the top of the page on the main site.  It will step you through the categories you asking for help about, and will give you can option to chat online or have someone call you.  Don't go searching Google for numbers, it's a bad idea!

Deleted everything I spent 10 minutes typing when I should have actually read the original post a little more carefully.

Yikes!

If your Checking account and Savings account are in the same institution they may be linked. We had that problem once. We had a Savings account set up and when we set up a Checking account for eBay they

tied the two accounts together so if one was overdrawn it removed it from the other account to prevent overdraft charges. We put a stop to that real quick once we found out about it.

eBay Scam

Anyone can create a web page, include a phone number and a logo, and then buy an ad on a search engine that appears when users search for things like "eBay customer service phone number". Be careful what links you click on and be sure that you know what page you are actually on when you follow such a link.

Report the scam ad and the scam page to Google, assuming that was the search engine you used and the site the page was created on.

Details of how to report such things are here:

Anydesk is a real program that can be used to allow remote access to your computer, for good or ill. Unfortunately, if you allow a scammer remote access to your computer, the scammer can use that access to do all sorts of things that can cost you money -- like stealing your credentials, placing orders or getting into or taking over any accounts that have passwords saved on your computer.
