I logged into my account this morning to receive a message that my account has been locked because it has been accessed from another location.
I called in to eBay CS and was able to reset the account and regain access. Found that my e-mail address had been changed.
CS is refusing to provide me with any information regarding the breach, telling me I need to go to some ebay law enforcement site to have law enforcement submit a request. CS never sent me the link to that site.
CS is claiming I will need to file a police report, but in order for me to file a police report, I need the information concerning the breach to provide to the police, and eBay is refusing to provide this information.
They have also refused to open an engineering ticket to obtain the information regarding the breach. They have refused to escalate the issue beyond a supervisor, have told me that the engineering, retention, and executive escalation departments do not exist...
This is a completely unacceptable response from eBay. I am hoping a mod or blue on this board will read this message and get this issue the traction it needs.

I have been hacked 6 times. 5 on ebay and 1 on paypal.
They would not tell me who did it either - except one cs slipped it was not from the US.
Ebay unfortunately has a big vulnerability where this is concerned.
That is why protect yourself by changing your passwords often. I do every other month. And I make them really difficult now.
As far as not telling you who did it, it was pobably done in a foreign country, leaving you little ability to really do anything about it. Look at all the stores that have been hacked. I was caught in the Target one. It happens unfortunately, alot.
Oh, and another thing I do. I used a separate small bank account with a very low limit credit card at a different bank than my main one. So if the worst happens, my liability is low.
So instead of worrying about who did it, put all your forces into protecting yourself from someone doing it again.

Good advice. I definitely wasn't phished or anything else, so there is either a security breach at eBay or someone has brute-forced my account password or otherwise gained access.
They refuse to provide me info, telling me I need to file a police report, but in order to file a police report, I need some info to give to the police. This is a catch-22 and I feel I am being given the run around, and there is no reason not to provide me any of this info after having verified my identity.
The CSR did tell me there is a 3rd party app involved and that the access occurred from my own state, but won't tell me was app was involved. There is no way for me to mitigate the security risk if I do not have details of how the breach occurred. There is no way for me to involve law enforcement if I do not have any details to provide to police. The police are not going to just contact eBay "because I said so".
This may be the last straw for me on eBay. This type of response simply isn't acceptable. CS has been very unhelpful. If I cannot determine the source of the breach, I will need to close the account.

I had my account hacked and went on as usual. Why do you need to close your account? Seems a little extreme. They can't get direct access to your banking information, it's all encrypted. So I'm confused about why you would need to close your account?
Change your passwords regularly and limit your liability as emerald says by attaching low value banking information.
I've had my credit cards hacked multiple times. That didn't require me to close down my credit card accounts. Every company out there seems vulnerable. The only way to avoid it is to go off the grid and live in a cabin.

Because I have a right to know where the account was accessed from and how it was accessed. I have a right to the information necessary to file a police report and take legal action.
It is unacceptable for a company to refuse to provide the information necessary to take legal action against identity theft.

At the bottom of every eBay page is a link to the Security Center. From there one can report a breach and other security matters. There is also information for and about law enforcement involvement. You might find better assistance going thru that channel as compared to calling customer service and dealing with whoever happens to take the call. Good luck to you and hope you are able to resolve the issues to your satisfaction.

Change your passwords.

OP, not sure if you have this function or not... but I see it on mine. It's the two step verification, I suggest you use it.
For me, it's in Account Settings>Business Information. It's near the bottom under "Security Information." I believe you can put a phone number and when someone logs in you account, they will ask for a verification code that ebay will text you.

I got this message yesterday too. saying Unauthorized use of your account, please reset your password. but I have been having problems with my account so I thought it was more of that.
I hate that they don't tell you if really someone tried to hack you , or what happened. I just don't feel like calling and being on the phone with a CS for a while 😛
As happened with me and with this seller, ebay freezes your account. They lock out the thief and you until you call them and they will help you regain access to it.
In my case ebay saw that I was selling cars, something I never sold in 19 years, so they froze my account. Another time I caught it because I saw that I had a gold rolex for sale, and know I never listed it. Showed that one to the message board before I called ebay and reported it. Since I still had access to my account because I found it first I changed the password myself.
But Ebay will inform you when they catch it first by locking your account, so the scammer cannot do any more damage to it.

Ebay is saying that you are not entitled to be provided with certain information in their possession, since you are not entitled to receive that information, just file a police report with the information that you have been provided.
Good luck

Which listing program are you using.
That last time I was hacked was through Auctiva.

The information from eBay is NOT a necessary in order to file a police report.

If the OP truely wants to know and can afford it, he needs to hire a lawyer.
A letter from a laywer possibly would force ebay's hand to divulge the information.
