The defect rate is calculated by dividing the number of defects by the number of transactions:
# Defects / # Transactions = Defect rate
The way to lower a fraction is to either
- decrease the numerator (# defects); or
- increase the denominator (# transactions) without increasing the numerator (# defects)
You can't really reduce the numerator (# defects) unless you wait a year until they drop off.
So your only real options is to increase the number of transactions without accumulating any more defects.
