cancel bid request

Started a sports card auction earlier today at 99 cents.  Just got home and saw a bidder messaged me asking to cancel their bid. They claim they only meant to bid $1.05 (I cannot see what their bid was but am assuming it is $105 given the state of what I am seeing).  Since they put in their bid a few hours ago another bidder attempting to bid on it has driven the price to over $30 before I even saw the cancellation request. The first bidder has less than 5 feedback so it could be an honest mistake by a newbie. The eBay automated FAQ says I can cancel the bid as a seller, but does not say what then happens to the second bidder's bid as I can see them feeling really screwed in this? Any thoughts on best path forward? Thanks

cancel bid request

Best path forward is to just cancel the bid.  Likely will save you a lot of trouble later.

The showing price will go back down to one increment over the 2nd highest bidder's bid.

Seconded.  Way easier to cancel a bid than to have a mess with an unhappy bidder on your hands.  The bidder can cancel it themselves for "bid the wrong amount", but some phone users may not be able to figure out how.

cancel bid request

When a bid is canceled or retracted, the bid history is adjusted as if that bid had never been placed.  So if there are two bidders and one retracts/cancels, the high bid showing will drop down to the opening bid price.

As the others have advised, you should cancel the bid anyway.  Otherwise, the auction could end up with an  unwilling winner and that never goes well. The sooner you cancel that bi, the sooner the auction can get back on track with sincere bidders.

Gee Another Big Spender!

Trying to get an expensive card for free and then lying to back out of the sale.

I had a Bad buyer back out yesterday on a $2.99 coin with please will you cancel I bought this by mistake.

With about 6 pages to go through to pay that's NOT possible anymore!

Time wasters need to pay a restocking/cancel bid fee after the first time!
