am i out the item and $ for lost package?

shipped item (poster in a tube)  21 days ago, parcel select, have tracking number but shows no scanning or other info just 'label created' buyer noticed lack of tracking info right away and now says he has still not received poster and wants a refund.  i will refer him to filing an item not received claim through ebay....is there any hope of being compensated for lost item?

About the only thing that can come out of it if you refund the buyer is hoping they are an honest one and will either return your posters to you or pay for them. You could ask the buyer to do this. Wouldnt hurt

You can also recall a package and/or call USPS and tell them the issue and see what they can find out. Maybe inquiring about it will give it the boost it needs to get moving

If the package  was insured, you could put in a claim for lost package

No.

You are responsible to your customer for delivery within the window eBay sets out.

  • With the current slowdown in any shipping due to the pandemic, many sellers have increased their Handling period to five, seven or even 30 days.
  • This pushes the delivery window further out.
  • This means no TRS status, but the discounts for TRS are pretty stingy, and may be less at the end of the month than payouts on refunds.

You can keep an eye on that delivery status and when it does show delivered, invoice the buyer again, politely and cheerfully noting that he has his doohickey now and the Paypal Send Money invoice will make it easy for him to return the refund.

  • It works about half the time. That's better than nothing.
  • Some seller "forgive" the shipping cost on this kind of invoice.

But

You can go to your shipper and as their customer ask for a refund of at least your shipping cost .

Start however with asking for the entire amount your customer paid you.

The shipper is responsible to YOU for secure and prompt delivery.

This works better if the service you purchases includes insurance or guaranteed delivery.

The idea of recalling an undelivered package had not occured to me. Thank you for adding that suggestion.
It might also trigger notice that the package had indeed been delivered. So there's that.

No

Since it didn't get an acceptance scan, there's no proof that USPS got it and Parcel Select doesn't have insurance unless you buy it.

Once the buyer files an INR, you'll have to refund.

If the buyer does not receive the item and you do not have a scan that shows the item was delivered, you are out of luck.     All you are able to show now is that a label was created but nothing to prove the item went beyond  creating that label.  So yes, you will be out both the item and the money.

How did you mail the package, i.e. did you just drop it off at the post office or leave it somewhere for pickup?  I know a lot of people don't, but I always take my items inside the post office and have them scanned in.  That way, I at least have proof that my items were mailed.

As a side note, just curious why you sent a poster in a tube by Parcel Select.  Depending on the size and weight, if it's less than a pound, it can go first class.  If more than a pound, the cost between Priority and Parcel Select is usually just a few cents.  And Priority will get there in a couple of days while Parcel Select travels very slowly and even more slowly now with the Covid-19 thing.

Unless you insured, no compensation.

Was this a huge poster? Unless it was First Class Package is far superior to Parcel Select.

By the way what's with your stuff that shows Media Mail that is definitely not eligible for that service?

Bad idea. I would never encourage buyers to file an item not received claim, and would sooner refund and apologize to the buyer for not receiving their item. INR's are not your friend, they hurt your metrics and your account standing.

21 days in transit is a long time too, long enough to realize the buyer didn't get what they paid for and you have a responsibility to ensure they do.

If it was a like a week late or something, I would probably ask the buyer to wait, but 21 days is too long.

No, you will not be compensated.

If you were, then unscrupulous sellers would list Rolexes and iPhones they do not have, print labels for them with no intention of mailing anything, and then wait to get compensated for the item.
