Zero sales for 6 days, is that possible?

This is weird. We have 167 items in our eBay store (We're Vintage) and suddenly our sales dropped to ZERO for the last 6 days with one offer by a low baller. The previous average for 6 days was around $350.00, not a lot, but something. Obviously we have some none trendy crap, but they sell too. Our 30% off storewide sale ended 2 day ago, so even considering that, there is four days with ZERO sales. Is that possible, even in this economy? Is there some monkey business going on?

Income 22,000 last June and have 9,500 this June.  Guird up, usually it's not a short season when sales slip that much.  Good luck and find ways in this time to improve your business when you have more time than money.  Clothing has more and more competition always and expect that won't change.  I get better at getting items and how I sell but nothing beats supply which has always increased here and with increasing sites doing the same thing eBay does.

@axiombody   That's a big drop ... last year I saw growth during the middle of the year May - June - July - August - September - October.   All of those months hit new sales highs.  This year its been a roller coaster flipping back and forth between good months and bad months.   May and June this year were bad months and July has started close to 60% behind, not sure if it will recover, there are a lot of days left in the month AND it covers 5 weekends which are typically my higher selling times.   We'll see.

Not sure why eBay is flat lining, the other venues I use are not. That means it’s ebay and not the time of year, economy, inflation or whatever else people try to blame it on.

@deosil111   Agreed ... if it were any or all of those reasons I would be making a killing on acquiring inventory in the categories I sell in ... but I am not ... and actually it got more competitive this year ...

I have worried a lot since this inflation began. I heavily invested in inventory and have been adding and adding listings. The cricket sound on here is very disturbing right now, I can only hope that after the summer time expenditures or gas for vacation etc etc this stuff is going to ramp up again. If not I have to COMPLETELY STOP investing in inventory.

Amazon's first quarter report says sales down 9%

and eBay sales  down 1%

The 2nd quarter Apri thru June report  will come out in early August

These are that top two Dogs in the  on-line selling fight

What  other comparable venues  are your using???.

@vintagecraze50  It may depend on categories ... I've been intentional in stating that the ones I sell in I can't get ahead of the curve on acquiring inventory ... meaning people are still spending what I call "stupid" money paying OVER average retail on many things.  I have acquired inventory from:

PA

MD

DE

IN

IL

VA

So its not just local stuff ... some of the online auctions I participate in sell one item at a time via a Webcast, you can see the auctioneer AND the City & State of each bidder on a running bid screen ... they are from all over the country.  Some of those bidders "may" even be customers of mine because I have shipped to ALL 50 States over the years ...

Last week I shifted 1/3 of my items off eBay to another venue.   I was only going to do 10-15% but wound up doing more.  This year the plan is that items get "so long" to sell on eBay and then they get moved.  I still give eBay first shot at selling the vast majority of what I acquire ... in time I will not have many long tail items.

I guess that's the nature of selling on the internet ...

Zero sales for 6 days, is that possible?

As a long time seller - through the recession of 2007-2008 - I find it hard to believe that the economy is the reason for my worst sales in over 20 years.  Yes, I sell primarily collectibles, but few over $20.  Sports collectibles (no trading cards) have always been my best seller until 2022 while books have been declining for years.  Yet this year I have sold more books than sports collectibles.

Since eBay has installed their new view counting system, I've been amazed to find that over half of my sports collectibles have 0 views in 30 days - closer to 75% for books - no wonder there are so few sales.   Usually the Super Bowl brings NFL sales,  March Madness brings college sales, spring training camp adds MLB sales, the playoffs equals NBA/NHL sales, etc.  - not even any Fathers Day sales this year.   Yet many of my longtime sports collectibles colleagues - selling much higher priced items - haven't been similarly affected.   Do higher prices now get you more visibility in search?  Why does an item priced at $25 with free shipping sell, but the exact same item at $10 plus $5 shipping get 0 views?

Something is radically wrong with the current search algorithms if these new view counts are to be believed.

It started late last year after the category shuffle ... then there is the change you mentioned and some others.  I know PLS Stand Campaigns have NOT performed as well since they launched the Pay per click PLS Advanced program ... I saw Impressions drop by just over 80% earlier this year for no reason ... That's just not normal so I agree with you 110% ...

Natural sales on GTC listings have taken the hardest hit ... I had a period earlier this year where Auction listing sales outpaced GTC sales by a wide margin and part of the period was during a poorly performing PLS Standard Campaign.

So more recently I have had to boost sales by using the Send offer feature and a lot of other sales have been from Repeat Buyers ... without those two sales types I would be nearly flat lined ...

If you remember the GTC mandate that rolled out in late 2018 then you will understand this story ... I had spent 12 months building up a 2nd ID to the low 5 figures.  I would switch listings back and forth between the main ID and the 2nd one ... for some parts of listing it was twice the work but with Templates it went pretty quick PLUS I could copy and paste Conditions and Descriptions to a Word doc to use on both IDs ...

I was careful NOT to have an item Active on both IDs at the same time (although I am sure some Sellers have tried that).  So along comes the GTC Mandate and within 3 months the 2nd ID had pretty much tanked ... in month 6 after that roll out the 2nd ID sold 1 item ... yep 1 Item all month ... I stopped using it.

Zero sales for 6 days, is that possible?

This account is 22 years old - the sports collectibles account which was originally my husband's is 15 years old - both had a store subscription until 2017 when I closed the stores and added two more accounts.  The total number of listings did not change nor did my total sales although they were now spread over four accounts instead of two.  All four accounts sell different types of items - I don't move items from one account to another.

Over the course of the first five years (prior to 2022) - book sales have declined, crafts sales and sports collectibles have increased, while this collectibles account has been a flat line.   In 2022 three accounts have declined - while craft sales have been flat.   I have changed nothing except shipping as rates have gone up.  I've absorbed eBay fee increases without raising prices.  I've corrected listings for ebay's category changes and even filled in some of the recommended items specifics that aren't even germane to what is being sold.

And yet sales are on a six month decline with each month either flat or worse than the one before - no matter how many new listings I add.   I have even created a few new listings (no similar items found) in the  auction format to check the number of views they receive per the new view counting system - with one still running 0 views on any of them.   Even stranger is having several fixed price items with watchers but no views recorded even though they were new  or sell similar listings as I don't use the relist button.   Getting harder and harder to try and figure out what is going on with eBay and adjusting accordingly - no longer really worth a lot of effort.

Fortunately, I will be closing down my ebay accounts as soon as space is available in a nearby retirement community which has its own resale shop - probably in early 2023.  I figure I can unload a lot of my remaining eBay inventory by having a few good estate sales in my current house after I move out and  before I sell it.

eBay likes to throttle people's sales on the site for some reason.

Good job Mr L. Doing the diverse selling. That should help. Shortly after my woeful compliant I got two sales. It sure helped cheer me up. We sell some fairly high priced stuff average 180 dollars and more, so some of it may be due to the tightened belts on the cash right now. Summer is always like this here anyway, so I am hoping this will improve.

Happens to me all the time but I am not a high volume seller. Summer is always slow. Ecommerce is becoming very competitive and the economy is not the best at the moment. A lot of shoppers have returned to B&M stores a trend that Wall Street had forecast once the pandemic began to come under control I diversified across multiple forums and venues and most of my items, 80+%, sell on those other forums and venues. EBay does not have the monopoly they once enjoyed.

I would never sell on etsy, their CEO is nuts, and who knows what else he will be conjuring up to fleece sellers there by putting them into involuntary fee structures to grab a buck.
