You set a rule in return preferences to approve automatically. I call this a **bleep**.

Learned a lesson today. A set of train tracks sold are being returned without the buyer telling me anything. As I was checking their explanation for what I didn't get a notice of the return, there it said I "chose" to do it automatically. I call that a **bleep**. I never set anything up.

I can be blamed for not paying attention, but it's incredible that we sellers don't get a message before they approve anything.

The tracks were OK, the buyer couldn't make any "loco" run on the tracks alleging "cannot get a loco to run continuously with dcc", and then he adds.........."It might be fine for dc operation"? Smiley Mad

So, as I have read with many sellers, we are a "changing room" for buyers trying to make things work.

I am going to be paying shipping one way, and shipping the other way, basically I will be spending the money I could have earned selling the tracks. My second hope is they don't approve Parcel Post, double than Fedex. Jesus! Ebay is as stupid as it sounds.

The best way to make sure this does not happen to you in the future is to require that a RMA # be obtained prior to anything being returned.  This forces the buyer to contact you and you to issue an RMA # so there cannot be any automatic returns.  That can be set up in your preferences.

@escuintla   Dumb buyer ... dcc is the control method and has nothing to do with the track ... the track is basically an electrical conductor transfering the power output from the dcc control system to the electric motor in the locos ...

No need to take the Lord's name in vain.  There is no stupidity on Ebay's part.  You simply missed the Seller Update from October 2017.  Always read the Seller Updates that come out several times a year.

You take returns.  When you take returns, you take returns for any reason.  Ebay made returns automatic for those who take them~sorry you weren't aware of that change.  There was nothing for them to notify you about.  You take returns, they accepted the return, which is what you would have to do.  End of story.

+1.  You need to read the updates to stay current with the changes.  And when you don't whose fault is that?

Thanks for the input. A penny for my pocket of knowledge. I will be on top of any changes.

By the way, I called CS yesterday since the return was done on USPS when I paid for Fedex. It meas about $20+ difference. Well, it's going to be only $4.90 they told me. I paid 4 times that.
Before speaking to a rep, the prompt message said something about canceling the return? I heard that and I said, screw them, I am not falling for more stupidity.

Not necessarily true. I just had a return request and it wasn't accepted automatically.

Reality is the leading cause of stress.

If you have an RMA requirement set up, then it isn't.  Most won't have that, though, and many are then surprised when it is accepted automatically, even though they take returns.
