Why won't eBay remove negative feedback I received due to the US postal service taking to long to deliver the package
06-10-2024 09:25 PM
Ebay's way of thinking is that you chose the carrier, you sent the item and as such, you're responsible for it to get there on time.
Your listing shows a 3-day handling time. Why did it take you a week to get it out?

eBay doesn't remove feedback if it doesn't violate policy.
The feedback you received was the opinion of the buyer on the way the transaction was handled by you.

Probably because the feedback is not just about how long the USPS took. It is also about how long you took to ship it, and about your lack of communication.

Because it is the seller’s responsibility to mail the package within his handling time, so that it reaches the buyer within the estimated delivery date. Sellers are accountable for their packages and its contents, until it is safely delivered to the buyer.
The carrier you chose is acting at your behest, as your agent, as far as eBay is concerned.
In addition to this, eBay is making it tougher to get negative feedback removed. I for one, feel this was needed.
Being a seller myself, i have been very, very cautious about ever leaving a poor feedback review for a fellow seller. But i did have a particularly bad buying experience with a subpar seller, who had appalling customer service, able to remove a justifiable and properly worded negative feedback, simply by asking.
It was infuriating to me as a buyer. My careful use of the feedback system was thrown back into my face. There has been too much leniency about feedback removal historically.

If the feedback states something about the tracking that is incorrect, then you might be able to get it removed. However you do offer a 3 day handling time, so if you were late in shipping it out by a few days, Ebay is not likely to help you with this one.

For one never had understood why any eBay seller has a handling time longer than 1 day (except custom made items). Your eBay competitors do and so do other selling venues. If you want to be a top shelf seller step up to the bar and keep up with the Jones's. From here don't think it takes more effort to ship an item with a 1 day vs a 3 day. When I sold on eBay always had a 1 day handling time and often shipped the same day and would ship on Saturdays - always shipped via USPS Priority or First Class Package. My buyers seemed to give me two thumbs up in the FB comments - plus received FB on 65% of the 1665 shipped with only 1 red hickey in the 10 years I sold - ain't bad and ain't bragging - but you do earn what you get. and competition should always keep on your toes.

I think it depends on what you sell. Highly unique items, or bargain basement items are ones that buyers are usually willing to wait on. Absolutely, if you are competing with Amazon sellers, you are better to have a short handling time.
I have actually found that handling time, for me, means very little. I used to do very well with certain Beatles items – and I basically had the market cornered. It didn’t matter if I was going to get the item out in one hour or three days – people would wait.

"For one never had understood why any eBay seller has a handling time longer than 1 day..." Are you also of the opinion that everyone has a lifestyle that is exactly like yours? The sellers on this site or any site with third party sellers are a diverse group of people with an endless list of differences from one another.
Some may be disabled and are dependent upon someone else to come and take their items they need shipped to the carriers. Those people may not come by every day. Others may work out of the home on a variety of shifts, some may be a 24 hour shift like many first responders. There simply are all kinds of GOOD and VALID reasons why shipping in one day isn't easy or even possible for everyone.
On this site and others, there are millions of "top shelf" sellers that do not ship in 1 day. You assume you know what all other sellers are capable of and/or actually do and you simply don't.
I have been TRS since the day the program started. I have processed a whole lot of orders over the years. My feedback is just fine. I have my listings set up that I ship in 2 days. I'm just fine despite your opinion of sellers that don't ship in 1 day.
Yes you are bragging or trying to.

I have six selling accounts and have been selling here for 20 years. I have always had 3-day shipping, and I always will.
I do this because I have a day job and I because I like to take long weekend away from home and because I am not married to my eBay business.
I do not think think this in any way means I am not a "top shelf seller" or that I need to "step up to the bar" or that I need to "keep up with the Jones's".

It does if you are not at home every day.

My original response was directed to the OP - their first and only comment. As I read the OP neg - the OP was late in sending the item hence and even loner delivery time.
Here is the buyer comment that I read before I commented -
"As described order placed 5-15-24 but no longer needed it took them almost a week to ship and 3 weeks to get here. Seller does not accept returns and did not provide any updates."
Amazon a major competitor to eBay seems to deliver very promptly - my wife refuses to buy on eBay Prefers pronto deliver and hassle free returns . If one wants to play like the big boys - forget the excuses and get into the game or be have with less than top level results.. Again I sold for 31 years in the same product industry - rarely had a 40 hour work week- traveled frequently a saturdays and sundays - received my first laptop at the age of 50 - was taught hard work never hurt any body.

Oh do despise those 1/4 pounder Mackie Ds and hash browns that were delivered cold after a long delivery time or order was not correct - my solution go to Chick-fil-a and that's all. Haven't had much fast food in the last 2 decades. Plus Good Customer Service seems to be a thing of the past and going down hill still.

A buyer doesn't care about your personal issues or their life habits just do as stated in the listing - if there is an issue the seller should alert the buyer post haste so they can make other plans if the purchase was for a special and/occasion/event.
Are you just posting from one of your eBay just buying accounts vs the one of the 6 selling account you make reference to - as you have zero FB as a seller under this "handle"?

I didn't say anything different to the OP than you did. My post #6 was just shorter.
There are so many differences between Ebay and Amazon.
06-12-2024 03:48 AM
In my opinion buyers simply want to do business with someone that makes it easy to do business with - the internal differences are of little concern to the buyers simple procedures is king believe "A" has the upper hand (e.g. easy return for buyer, hassle free refunds on return item refunds with in hours, etc. Low prices are not necessarily a solution to increased sales volume at the expense of lower profit margin. Have found that Amazon prices are higher than for the same items, from the same seller on eBay. Probably due to higher selling fees for the "A" seller is my SWAG IDK
Would rather provide more information or clarity than your shorter version. Have noticed your posts are frequently lengthy - so much for being a pithy poster.

There are a couple of issues here and there is not enough information with regards to the shipping/logistics to speculate with regards to either based on the buyers feedback. You sold the item on 15 May and as others have stated you have 3 day handling time when did you actually get the item to the post office and when was the first scan? Buyer claims it took a week but nothing to substantiate that with.
The second is the USPS delay. You shipped this item out of Glendale, Arizona. Where was it going to and what does the USPS tracking show? There were a lot of weather related issues in various parts of the country at that time that could have caused the delay. Again buyer is claiming 3 weeks in shipping but nothing to substantiate that either. I have issues with eBay at times for providing the buyers with "estimated" delivery dates for a process that they have absolutely NO control over.
Did the buyer ever contact you about the item not arriving? Did they actually open an INR case or was the feedback the first you heard of the problem. While you do not offer returns this may have been one of those instances that you could have worked with the buyer to have the item returned or simply worked with the buyer on an acceptable solution.
EBay may be unwilling to remove the feedback for any number of reasons but personally I would reach out to the buyer and see if you can mutually resolve the situation. Maybe then the buyer would be willing to revise their feedback.
