My buyer recently purchased an item for $12.99 and when refunded, she received all except to $2.57 that eBay 'refunded' to me for my Final Value Fees. Is there a glitch or is it just another way for eBay to nickel and dime their profits. She is not happy! Taxes and my postage charge put her total at over $16.00 and she only received $10.42 on refund. She was expecting $12.99 and I believed that was what she was going to be refunded.
When I went in to refund her the $2.57, what shows on the 'refund your buyer' page is that she was refunded $12.99. But I had already seen on another (detail) page the breakdown; I was reimbursed my $2.57 FVF, and her refund was reduced by the same amount. So, I am confused and perturbed. And my buyer is very unhappy!

Well it may be something else. My buyer just informed me her refund was for $10.07. I don't even know where that figure came from.

Maybe your buyer is being less than 100% forthright with you.

Did the buyer use ebay bucks or ebay credit card rewards to pay for part of the purchase?

YES. it was the return postage she wasn't expecting to pay. I was so distracted by the FVF detail for me, the seller. What they did was add her item and tax together as her total and deducted her return postage. I found this to be the case when she gave me a screenshot of her refund detail. She just didn't know what it meant and she didn't know she was paying return postage. Whew, that was a wild ride. And I am sure she is still not happy.

I am glad you figured out the accounting procedure on a return/refund.....
I initially skipped over supplying the correct answer when I saw this line...
"...Is there a glitch or is it just another way for eBay to nickel and dime their profits..."
that line causes some very knowledgeable people to dismiss your valid question.....
.....just saying.....
although. for the uninitiated of us that are not into accounting, it is confusing somewhat.....

Thanks for the note. Just my frustration showing...in my irrelevant comment. 😞
