Why is "Color" a recommended descripton for CDs?

Ebay has recently begun requiring and recommending a number of new items in the descriptions. I mainly sell CDs, but now one of the many, many new description categories is "color." What does color have to do with a CD? This makes no sense.

@noconflicts  When they do an update on item specifics, these types of issues always come up. Seems they tend to make them generic for everyone. I sell 45 records and DVD's of different TV series.

For records they now added which album, but many of these 45's were never issued on an album at time of release. For the TV series, they treat them as if they are movies, so they ask for the director's name. That doesn't work for a TV series as basically every episode has a different director. I had a hat listed, just an ordinary unisex hat. They wanted to name the character associated. No character, it's just a plain solid colored white hat. I entered N/A.

I've learned to add N/A to just about every required item, and for those that are only recommended, I now ignore them if they won't accept N/A. Best of luck to you....

I saw that for vinyl records too. They suggested I add a color and the length of record as if it is a piece of fabric I am selling.

A lot of the item specifics that are out there really don't apply to a lot of categories.  Ultimately they're just going one-size-fits all and overdoing it - most of the whole "Item Specifics" requirement is pretty dumb.  For CDs, there's different colors when it comes to burnable discs, but it's largely irrelevant for anything else.  Same for vinyl.  They exist in different colors, but the color is going to be pretty standard with the particular release in question.

There are records that come in colors other than black but not too many where it needs to be a separate descriptive thing, if it's important enough I would think a seller would include in title anyways.

But Titles are apparently not read by third party sites -- which means Google basically.

If it is in Item Specifics it is designed to be found by Google.

And those colour albums are usually special with low issue numbers.

I think if you describe your item as much detail as possible, then more people can easily to find your item. That's why everytime Ebay ask us to add more "item specifics".

Like it makes no sense asking item the specifics weight when I’m selling a sofa yet it’s there!

Who buys a sofa based on weight?
Am I really supposed to hoist up my sofa for sale into the bathroom where my scale is to weight it?

In eBay's collective mind there are millions of people that want to buy CDs that are only blue and men's shoes with Disney's 101 dalmatians decorations.  It's a gang mentality.  You do things that make no sense just to be a part of the group and get along.

For Recommended Item Specifics: If it does not apply, let it lie.

Spending time asking "why" a recommended IS exists is just a waste of time.

Simple eBay it's just trying to complicate everything you do as a seller. I'm with you color has nothing to do with CDs. Best of luck with the managed payment disaster.

Absolutely not. eBay is trying to make all listings pretty much the same. This way it is much simpler for them and much much more time consuming for the seller . It also gives the buyer more options to open up refund case possibly stating your description was incorrect as in your color was wrong.  Is it not enough that we can post 12 photos of our items for sale.

Seeing is believing. Best of luck

I imagine those selling tv's must indicate whether they're color or b&w.  Apparently someone is either doing mass edits without forethought or they feel consumers are filtering things by color in some off beat way.  I guess one example is someone was looking up something silver on google,  filtered by color and there was your CD and they changed their mind and went and bought it.  Insane.  I think they're trying to get some sort of a backdoor sale by manipulating searches.
