Why is my stuff not selling? Very Frustrated

Hi Everyone,

I know this is a very popular question in this forum. I'm still a pretty new seller. Could I please get some constructive feedback from any long time sellers as to why my stuff is selling so slow/if at all/having to bring all prices down to practically nothing where it's not worth the time? I've read through a ton of stuff looking for clear answers. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Why is my stuff not selling? Very Frustrated

@dylajenning_0   For myself I do not use Best Offer ... and I checked a few of your listings ... Have you tried simply listing your items without Best Offer?  In a lot of cases, the shipping cost is higher then the item cost ($ 2.99 item and $ 4.70 shipping)  You might be better off listing those items for one price with Free shipping.

I did not bother to do any Sold Searches but you should probably do that for several items in each category you sell in.  While you do NOT have to be the lowest price on the market you do need to offer things that sell regularly ... when I look at Sold Search I use it as only a guideline for pricing but just as important to see WHEN the items sold.  If the sales have been recent that's good ... if sales on an item are spread over a longer period BUT many are available for sale then its a slow mover.

You are in a couple of very crowded categories. Sports cards and obsolete VHS. Need to do lots of research on what you have listed as opposed to what is selling. Mr. Lincoln gave you very good advice. Generally I don't think it is worthwhile to list items for under $10. Hope this helps a little.

Pictures look a little dark and fuzzy.

Might want to work on better pictures.

I apologize ahead of time but you asked for feedback. Most of your VHS tapes is what I take to Salvation Army. It allows sellers such as yourself to buy the for 50 cents, list them here and find out no one wants them. Check completed listings and you may understand what I am saying. Your sports cards are too common and very few will sell. Even those that have a chance of selling are price way too high. Check sold listings. Your Lebowski bobblehead, the highest one sold with shipping was $74, you want $100.

To be blunt, in most of the cases I checked your items are low demand and your prices are not particularly competitive when compared to either sold items or current listings.

Sounds like you have low demand/interest items.

As you try to sell, calculate your hourly rate.

Even if you find things that will sell, if they are low priced items, you might find you are only making $2 or $3 hour in profit. You can improve that by finding better items but also by working more efficiently. There is a time cost associated with listing/selling/packing, so consider those costs before purchasing.

Work on finding more selllable items. Consider disposing of things that won't sell for a decent profit so you have more time and space for better items as you find them.

For some low demand items, there is some money to be made by selling them in large themed lots. I don't know if your items qualify in that area or not.

I feel for you.

Selling on eBay is hard.

It takes a long time to learn how.

You may have heard all the stories of big sales here, people making a good living.

That may have been true 10 years ago and you could have found a variety of items to sell, or found a niche & had great sales. Both of those bits of advice are out there.

But, we began to try to sell in earnest 5 years ago. Our goal was a modest $100 profit a week. No matter how many hours I have spent (there have been some 12 &14  hour days) we rarely have reached that. It has gotten progressively harder to get sales.

You may have watched you tube videos about how & what to sell on eBay. For the most part those are fantasy. Some do it to drive sales to their items.

There is how to take good photos, how to word titles, how to describe an item. How to ship, how to package items. These skills are necessary also.

Ebay doesn't share information, but my guess would be the 80/20 rule.

(Or some close variation) that is, 80% who try selling as a true pursuit( not someone who sells an item once a year) quit pretty quickly.

There are many issues, eBay changes the rules("updates") regularly. The rules are complex. If there is an issue, customer service can be difficult to access & there may be  no resolution.
