Why is eBay holding my funds now for a return?

and by the way, they hold funds on some returns but not all. 

It must be new because it didn't happen to me since MP was started, and going back to paypal where they also never held my funds in the last 15 years

It's because some of your returns were paid by credit/debit/Apple/Google through Adyen, while the others were PayPal.
