We now have these polices because management thinks they are going to take on Amazon.

That's not what the article said; Wenig's "vision" is to be Not Amazon (because, duh, there is no other option).
Wenig is going with the guaranteed delivery and all that because it's the ecommerce trend.
The article was written almost a year ago. Read it in its entirety and see if you (meaning everyone) don't laugh in some parts.
The line about Wenig wanting buyers to "meander" through ebay's bazaar made me snort. He got that one right, although it should be rat maze instead of bazaar.

Really ?
How EBay's CEO Plans to Take On Amazon
that was the headline of the article

Just because Bloomberg named the article like that
still doesn't mean that eBay wants to take on Amazon and be Amazon.
Again, that's clear if you read the article.
fwiw,

LOL<
Articles are written by reporters in conjunction with a corporations PR director releasing data to said media outlets, I guess you need to learn how the Public Relations game works a little more.

Amazon does not guarantee delivery. They often don't even bother to put things in the mail until just before the promised delivery date. They change the promised delivery date after the fact sometimes.
If Amazon packages don't arrive on time, they will offer you a refund or give you a courtesy $5 coupon for your inconvenience. They will not send an upper management representative to commit ritual suicide on your front porch in apology.
USPS does not guarantee delivery either, except on Express, which starts at $24 for a small flat-rate package. Priority Mail arrives in 2-3 business days "in most cases."
Even "guarantees" made by USPS are subject to weather, breakdowns, etc.. and only cover the cost of shipping.
It is not eBay's place to put our name on the line when guaranteeing a buyer will get the package on a certain date. We have no control over the weather, the USPS, the holidays, or any of the other myriad factors that might influence delivery times.
It's just stupid and unrealistic to expect that packages can be delivered with the reliability and speed of email.

There have been guaranteed delivery services for over two decades now, FEDEX Overnight, UPS next day, USPS express mail, but you have to pay big money for that next day service.

"Articles are written by reporters in conjunction with a corporations PR director releasing data to said media outlets,..."
---------
That's funny.
I suppose then, that all eCommerce articles on eBay, carry identical viewpoints.
Right?

PR directors do this for a living, they are called press releases.
06-24-2017 11:46 AM
The article isn't a press release; it's Bloomberg news written by a reporter who attended ebay live (or whatever it's called) and then culled lots of Wenig comments from other areas.
And I want to say that in haste I misinterpreted somewhat your title; you didn't say ebay was trying to be like Amazon. Although most seem to make the ebay/amazon comparison and they are two different animals. species. most definitely reverso universe technology sites.
I do thank you for posting it; it was interesting reading after almost a year. I'm still not over "meander" the site.
Spicey would make a great PR man for ebay ... I hear he's looking for a job.

I did not say it, the article said it, in the headline, and if eBay wants to take on Amazon eBay would have to spend money on Google like Amazon does.
06-24-2017 11:58 AM
That would be a total waste of corporate $$ since those who go to Ebay to purchase items from Ebay do not use google and don't need to. Ebay has been around 20 years so those who have been living under a rock for the last 20 would be the only ones who would need google to shop Ebay. Ebay is not trying to be like Amazon and is a completely different animal than Amazon. Apples and Oranges.

Yeah, OK........
So how do you peg that Amazon is the number one ecommerce company in the world and they are Google's largest spender on search engine ads ??
Please give us the lowdown ??
06-24-2017 12:04 PM
Amazon is doing things completely different than Ebay and there is nothing to compare. Stop making Ebay out to be the next Amazon as it is not and will never be and shouldn't be.

You better tell Devin and Hal Lawton that, they are the guys pushing guaranteed delivery in a vain attempt to fool customers into buying from eBay instead of Amazon Prime and working at the same time to price match Amazon.
