Why doesn't my 'active listings' number match my 'items for sale' number?

There are always more active listings than items for sale....

Do you have any multiple item listings?

yes,...but that would make the 'items for sale' higher, not 'active listings'...I think,....I am getting befuddled,.....

Are you talking about the number shown as "you have listed (active)"? That's just how many listings you've actually sent live (active) this month.

My "active listings" are more than my "items for sale" because several of my listings are still active even though the number of items in those listings are "zero". 

I choose have some of my listings to remain active after there is nothing left in them to sell.   That way, it is easier for me to add some items to the listings when I get some more items.   Also, the total number of sales for each listing still shows when I do not end the listing when there are no more items.
