Why does listing in a second category get a 35 cent fee when I'm under the 50 free listings cap?

Why isn't it just treated as an additional listing. I ended up just putting it in one category, but couldn't I just as well now put it in the second one manually?

It's a listing upgrade, not a separate listing. They have always charged for that.

The only way to do it using your 50 free is to list one in one category as a BIN only, and another in the other category as an auction(with no BIN). That would use 2 of the 50 free.

As noted, that's eBay's policy: One free insertion per listing.

It would be OK to have both listings in the same category. The rules about duplicate listings say that the auction-format listing can't have a Buy It Now option.

Correct - they can be in the same category, but putting the 2 listings in different categories might gain double exposure, depending on what it is - and provided they have more than 1.

A good example of using multiple cats is antique banks - one cat is collectibles - banks, the other is antique toys, cast iron. When listing items like that, I always use 2 cats and pay for the 2nd cat. I just wish I knew which category generated more exposure, or which one the bids come from.

Does anybody ever browse categories any more?

It's like getting a cheese pizza for free, but if you want pepperoni on it, it is going to cost you something.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

I think some sellers start multiple accounts  to avoid those expensive fees. I would just start a GoFundMe account to pay for the extras and not worry about it.

@the*dog*ate*my*tablecloth

Oh my gosh, I used to love browsing categories and throwing out vague searches to get a mix of items from all the categories (i.e. “beach” or “Asian”).

Between the forced AI telling me what I want to see, KWS and cluttered categories full of foreign junk....

You cant really do it anymore

I go through my categories every day, ending soonest, auction only. A few days a week I check BIN, newly listed.

I don't usually search for anything specific - since what is considered specific to me differs than what is usually returned in search.
