It makes ZERO sense to have to end them individually.

You can do them in bulk, in the Hub, Active Listings, select the listings, use the Actions pulldown and the first choice is "end".
Does that not work?

I know I find it frustrating too. There must be some reason?

I wonder if Shipscript has a tool for this. She is feeling under the weather now, but said she hopes to be back in a few days.

No
You just get a message that they can't be ended in bulk.
OK thanks.
I use a third party listing tool so I don't have these issues, I can end any type of listing in bulk (unless it has current bids of course).

I just did a Google search on this question......
Some sellers recently (2018) reported that you can do it but it's browser dependent. At least one poster claimed it worked in IE but not Firefox or Chrome.
Not sure how valid that is.

I use Chrome and I use Seller Hub. I've been ending my GTC that have a quantity of 1 .
I go to my Active listings. I have them sorted by END DATE. I scroll down the list and check the [box] in front of each listing I wish to end. Then I click ACTIONS at the top, and the first item in the drop-down is END.
Then I go to my Unsold listings, change the GTC to auction-style, change the duration, change the price from Buy It Now to Starting price, and resubmit as auctions with a 5 day duration.
I have a Basic store, and this is how I am keeping my FP listings to no more than 250. I refuse to pay ebay any more money than I need to.

To me it makes ZERO sense to end an auction.

If there are no bids, auctions will end themselves, no action needed. I can't understand why you would want to end an auction before it ends unless you were going on vacation or had some kind of emergency.

The OP was asking about auctions, not GTC.

Well that's you.
If I'm only running auctions to use up my store allotment and I get a FP promo then I want to end them and change them to FP.
Capiche?

Thanks for the info.
I think I've been here long enough to know that.

I knew exactly why you were ending those auctions - to put them up at BINS before the 27th when the promo expires. I don't know why anyone should even care. Too many comments and judgements being made here on others' business practices.
Auctions are used by those of us who don't want a larger store due to the decrease in sales - to rotate the stock and keep them in our unsolds until it's appropriate to list them - unless you get a free promo!
