Why can't we end auctions (with no bids) in bulk?

It makes ZERO sense to have to end them individually.

Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Why can't we end auctions (with no bids) in bulk?

Since most all items I purchase on Ebay are from auctions I think it makes very much sense to question why someone would end auctions. I also think it makes very much sense to recommend not ending auctions. Reason being it ruins the whole auction format and buyers do not like that. Most buyers either watch and bid at the last second, or use a snipe program. IMO Ebay should charge sellers a listing fee for doing such a thing.

I think you can't do it in bulk because you have to choose a reason why you are ending the auction early. There is more than one reason to choose from so can't really be a bulk action.

The item is no longer available for sale.
There was an error in the listing.
There was an error in starting price, Buy It Now price, or reserve price.
The item was lost or broken.

People care because prematurely ending listings erodes buyer faith in the marketplace. It's bad for trust.

OK.  Just a thought.

I would think most of those are applicable, the exception being lost or broken.  It is possible that none of the items are now available for sale because that is why one wants to end the listings.  There may have been an error in the listing, or an error in the starting price, buy it now, or reserve price as seller could have made a mass decision to raise prices for any or all of those things.  JMO YMMV

Edit:  Even lost or broken could be a valid reason for all.  Suppose your items were all stolen, or if you have a storage building that is decimated by fire or earthquake or other catastrophic event.  Suppose its' roof collapses.  Those things could result in the loss of your entire inventory, IMO.

And yet...we are allowed to end FP in bulk without having to supply a reason.

Erm, if they want it they can place a bid. I wouldn't end it then.

They already charge a fee for ending any auction with a bid/s that's not sold to the then highest bidder.

Why should I have to pay to end a listing that no-one has shown any interest in?

@myjunqueyourtreasure

You could try ending them through FileExchange and see if that will work. Here's an old thread that explains how to do that:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Archive-File-Exchange/End-Listings-using-File-Exchange/td-p/1385247

I'm planning on using this process to end my GTC listings before they hit 30 days.

File Exchange can be complicated.  Ending GTC listings is a breeze from the bulk editor.  You can end up to about 500 within a few seconds.

If you end a single fixed price listing, you need a reason.
If you end fixed price in bulk, no reason is needed.
Auctions cannot be bulk ended via eBay.
They might be bulk ended with some third part applications, which may be found with a Google search. Used to be at least one out there.

@mam98031

Thanks for the heads up on the bulk editor... but I think I'll stick with File Exchange. I've been using FE for years, and it's how I list all my items anyway. I'm quite comfortable with spreadsheets... and I have 20,000 listings between two separate anchor-store accounts that will need to be ended each month.  Ending them 500 at a time is not efficient enough for my situation.

Of course... it was MUCH better when they just ended on their own!!!

When I end a single fixed price listing I don't need to choose a reason. It just says end listing and that's it.

Why can't we end auctions (with no bids) in bulk?

Now I understand the OP's question!

I was reviewing my listings to see which GTC I wanted to end tonight.  Imagine my dismay when I discovered 8 auction-style listings that were accidentally duplicated!  I tried to bulk END them, and ebay said no way.  I ended up ending each duplicate auction one by one, and then deleted each of those from the Unsold section.

I have no idea how those 8 ended up being duplicated.  I think I may have made an error after ending them as GTC, changing the format to auction, and then of course changing the minimum bid and removing the BIN price.

Because auctions need to go all the way to the end. You have no idea if someone is interested in it until the last second. Auction bidders lay low as they don't want anyone else to know they plan to bid. When you end it early you waste people's time waiting seven days to bid to find you it was not even an auction.
