Why can i not all of a sudden open an unpaid item case?

Why am I not able to open an unpaid item case? Buyer will not respond, eBay no longer allowing sellers to open a case for nonpayment? Are non-paying buyers not being penalized any longer? What is going on? If I cancel the auction am I as the seller penalized?

If a buyer (dead beat or not) hasn't paid by day #4 after the end of the listing/auction, eBay will automatically, on day #5, cancel the transaction, refund the seller's FVF and issue a non-payment strike to that bidder.

 I have not had autoamtic UPI ever

Its always been manual UPI for me with non payers..I have many buyers that like to build a pile of watches over 1-2 weeks and get combined shipping. I am always willing to help out my long term buyers who buy a lot

if ebay was to open up or cancel the sale for non payment that woud put me in hot water with some good bidders

the new system is much better because its sort of instant between days 4-5

ebay has knocked the procedure down to 1 step .it used to require an open and a close...2 steps

Thanks again for the reply to my query. Just to let you know I did set my default setting to automatically close an unpaid auction after day 4, well that did not happen, of course you can no longer call ebay and the chat line is ridiculous. I just manually cancelled the auction, going on day 7 , and now my original listing has vanished, poof!  It was not automatically relisted and yes I did set this up to automatically happen. I have been on eBay since year 2, all of these changes are not for the better. Not being able to speak directly to someone when help is needed is bull**bleep**!

Hmm- what happens with sellers who are happy to allow (known and trusted) buyers a longer payment period.

@femmefan1946

A seller can choose to 'exclude' a User from the automated feature, thus giving the buyer more time.
