I had a buyer request a refund for 'doesn't fit' today.
As soon Pin as I accepted it I noticed that in PayPal the status of the payment went to 'pending' and is now no longer available.
I have never noticed this before with this type of return. Yes I've seen it with 'not as described' returns, but seems odd for a doesn't fit return.
It was a pretty expensive item and could use the cash in the meantime until the item is delivered... I mean, she has my item and now PayPal has put the funds on pause? I'm confused, this doesn't make any sense.
Thanks for any input. It's much appreciated.

As soon as someone opens a case for a return - SNAD or remorse - aren't funds immediately held so the seller cannot empty out his account?

It makes perfect sense from Paypal's point of view.
It's become likely that you will need to refund, either voluntarily, or by force.
PP wants it to be your money, not theirs, which funds the refund.

Right there is the reason in bold. If you use the cash, how does PayPal know its going to get reimbursed?

Got it. Thanks for the replies!

It's just that I've never noticed this before. I've had times where I had 3-4 returns being processed at the same time and none of them were on hold. Is this new or it's always been this way?

Another way it could be related to the size of the refund is that PP is not so quick to lock up small amounts when the account clearly has enough money to cover the refund many times over. But even if they do lock it up, it doesn't much affect anything, so seller need not pay much heed.

I was told it depended on the amount of the return, but I am noticing it happens all the time. Then again my items usually are more expensive.

That is very odd. Especially when you've been with them for so long.
With sales slow I could really use the $70 towards rent this month... and the fact both haven't sent it yet is annoying.
I can always make money back in a few days or so for the return, especially since it gives you a few days to return.
I don't think it's right they can hold our funds.
They have my items. I should have my money until I get it back. No holds and nonsense like that.
Abe, I was surprised to read that you rent, not own. With the amount of money you've mentioned you make here on eBay maybe it's time you purchase something. Just food for thought.
PS: Don't anything about the money being frozen in pp.
