I am seeing the same two ads getting bumped over and over to the top of the list in the area I look and sell in. (Ford Model T parts, Ebay motors). I tired to find out what "sponsored" means, no luck. I call this bogus! The one seller has less then 500 sales. Their ads are no more important then anyone else. This has not been a one time bump, it has happened more then once just today. I have seen a number of ads with the heading of "sponsored" where "New Listing" would be.

sponsored is "promoted", and the seller is paying increased selling fees to be "sponsored".

Getting bumped to the top of the search results is pretty much the definition of a sponsored listing. Sellers pay eBay (if the item sells) to put their items in preferred spots in the search results.

Final value fee plus ad rate is higher than just a final value fee. However prevent users from finding the things they really want they just get fed up and go else where. In the 2 categories I mainly sell in the HUB shows the categories are down most of the time from 1 year ago. So really they are making a little more from the sellers currently listing but over all are getting less in total sells. As the trending ad rate is usually 4 percent they are losing about 5 percent to make a additional 4 percent. Almost like those people who site at convenience stores buying scratch off after scratch off counting their 10 dollar winning ticket as a profit and ignoring the 30 dollars they spent on losing tickets.
