News Flash.   You have to report the sale to the IRS but you can deduct the fees as a business expense.

Yes those are your  fees owed  for selling on eBay.

As others have already pointed out selling on eBay aren't free

You ever try consigning items at a B&M consignment shops the usually want 50% of what your item sells for in owner's retail space in my experience

Good luck but it appears you might find it valuable  to read seller's information before listing additional items for sale

"Because last time I used Ebay the fees werent ridiculous "

Perhaps the last time you used ebay you thought PayPal wasn't charging you 2.9% on top of ebay's 10%?  I have met hundreds of people over the past ten years who never once mentioned PayPal fees when they discussed the real cost of selling on-line.  It is a very common oversight.  Now the new sellers on ebay understand what the total fees are because they are all in one place.  Nothing has changed except that the fees are collected by one company.

Plus the cost of the item he apparently purchased twice.  That's a much better write off.  Why with the fees it should be a wash.  Video games really cost $800 these days?  wow....

@seawapl

Your fees were probably slightly higher the last time you sold something.  They were probably 10% FVF for eBay & 2.9% + 30 cents for PayPal fees or a combined fees of 12.9% plus 30 cents vs now 12.55%+30 cents.

20 years ago it was the same complaint expressed all over the community boards. "The fees are outrageous!"

The answer has always been the same. "Then don't sell here."

Few come to these boards to express their satisfaction with Ebay. Just the nature of the boards.

ALL of the fee information is readily available to sellers before they list for sale here.
