Here’s a funny story. A buyer purchased 3 lots of Pfaltzgraff dishes from me…soup bowls, cereal bowls and salad plates. Where the heck are those plates? Couldn’t find them anywhere! We’ve all been there. Missing inventory. Spent an hour looking. Nada. Looked again next morning, fresh eyes and all that. Nada. Had my artist son look ( with artistic eyes). Nada. So I contacted the buyer and apologized, explained that I can’t find his plates, offered to cancel the plates and refund, OR offered to buy the plates from a different eBay seller and have them shipped directly to the buyer.
So, I hear back from the buyer, he says that actually, he bought a lot of Wedgwood salad plates from me last week, and he got the Pfaltzgraff plates instead! I mistakenly shipped him Pfaltzgraff instead of Wedgwood. Both were simple, white plates. He was going to let me know, but his wife liked the Pfaltzgraff dishes so much she wanted to keep them. And they bought all the other pieces I had in that pattern. AND they still wanted the original Wedgwood plates that were never sent. Very bizarre situation, but it all worked out in the end. Everybody happy! And I got $250 in sales.

Nice! Despite the bad stories we see here every day, since this is sort of the "Complaint Department," most buyers are honest, pleasant, don't take advantage of sellers, are easy to get along with. It's good to be reminded of that.

Lol, that is cute but....please always double check your orders from now on. Your great buyer is not always going to be there. Whew! Dodged a SNAD!

Indeed! Always double and triple check. As far as I know, I’ve only shipped the wrong item one other time in 8 years, and that was a pair of Levi’s.

I know that feeling of panic! Glad it ended well for you.

I lost a whole large box of antique WATERFORD IRISH CRYSTAL, like 20 pieces a few years ago. I still have not found them. I must have tore the whole house apart and my storage units for 2 days straight. they just vanished.

Those sneaky little leprechauns love crystal.

HI! I love your story, not many happy ending ones here. I do have a question for you thoughyou said "OR offered to buy the plates from a different eBay seller and have them shipped directly to the buyer." How would you do that? We have to ship to the adress they tell us to. That was a great idea to offer that!! 😊

The OP has their buyer's name and address. When the OP purchases the plates from another seller, they would simply use the option on the Payments page for that item that lets you specify a different name and address to which the package will be shipped, and plug in the buyer's info there. All strictly legal. 😊
As for the original problem, I've had some near-panic conditions like that myself. I now impose a strict rule on myself that every listed item goes into one special box in the basement as soon as the listing for it is complete. No exceptions. When it sells, I know exactly where to find it.
