I was editing some listings, and stumbled. literally, into a case I had. Someone did a return request on the 15th on a shipment I sent them. I didn't get an email.. Nothing. No notification, what the he--l? the notification I found said the item was returned today (in my mailbox, which I haven't picked up) and did I want to refund now?
So when/ how does ebay inform me of a return request? I've checked through my messages, nothing. What If I hadn't stumbled accross the case notification today? How was I even supposed to know about this?
And is it now automatic for ebay to accept a return request, seems they did this time... One year away from selling and I'm being blindsided here...

My settings are set so I get emails and messages regarding cases or returns too. Once in a blue moon I'll stumble onto a case that I never knew existed too like you did. I remember calling ebay (sometimes paypal does this too) about it and all they say is sorry that's not supposed to happen... it's just one of those rare things, and just move on.

You should have received a message about the return in ebay messages, it’s odd that you didn’t.
If you accept returns and the buyer pays return shipping, remorse returns are automatically approved now. I think that changed in October or November. It was in the fall update.

I had one as well that was opened three days before I happened across it. I threw a fit on the phone and they ruled in my favor (actually eBay ate the cost), but I would've ate the whole deal if I had not responded in time. No message or email.

This happened to me last year... no eBay message, no e-mail. Since then I check the returns section every two days because I worry about another glitch like this one. So far that is the ony time I didn't receive a notification.

This actually happens with sales too sometimes. I think it happened twice or three times total in my 15 years. Ebay shows zero record of a purchase by a buyer. No messages, nothing in sold or awaiting shipment page. But PayPal received a payment for an eBay listing with buyer eBay name and everything.
I never check and filter out my payment and sold notifications, but after the buyer messaged me asking where their item is, I search my emails to find that PayPal sent me a payment received email, but eBay has zero knowledge. So I just end up sending them the item anyways. I guess eBay's glitch took that sale off of eBay for me. Weird.
