When I send an offer to potential buyers are they required to pay or can they accept the offer without paying?
New to eBay and almost got scammed when one of my items listed was sold but the buyer never paid. So I don’t want to send out offers and worrying about them accepting and then not paying.

No, they are not required to pay immediately. Even when an offer is accepted on a buy it now that requires immediate payment.
Hope that helps,
Grandma

no, they have 3 days

I believe it's two days. An UID can be opened after 48 hours.

maybe right, I'm thinking of won auction payment, never use the offer option, BIN or never is my motto 😉

The payment rules are the same for fixed price and auction. And the buyer actually has 6 days, not 2, not 3. The seller can file the non-payment dispute after 48 hours, but the buyer is still allowed an additional 96 hours to pay.

[smh] The seller can file a non-payment case after 2 days, as I clearly stated. The buyer then has an additional 4 days to pay, as I also clearly stated.
2 + 4 = 6
The buyer can pay at any time during that 6-day period with no negative consequences. If you read your own link, you'll see all of that info.

the way ebay writes it can be confusing
2 days to pay is policy - additional 2 days to close a case if not paid = 4 days total not 6 days
"A seller may report an unpaid item if the buyer doesn't pay or contact them within 2 days."
2 days to pay - after 2 days of acceptance to pay can open a case - 2 more days if not paid case can close = 4 days

Yes, it can be confusing, and you're interpreting it incorrectly. The buyer has 4 days after the UID is filed. 2 + 4 = 6
When eBay says:
They mean 4 days from when the case was opened, not 4 days total. It's been this way for quite a few years.

How do you get scammed if the buyer never pays?
Non payers are a pain in the butt and a waste of time, but that's about it. Not even close to being scammer level.

The non-payment process is described more clearly here:
After opening a case, the buyer has 4 days to respond or pay for the item.

If they are selling a similar item, or representing someone who is selling a similar item, and they knock your listing out then that is a type of scam. That happened to me recently. I sent out an offer to multiple watchers. The one jerk accepted the offer and I was a bit slow and lost the listing for two weeks. until the case closed.

ok, my bad, sorry, I always took it as 4 days but being I don't offers I hadn't looked at it for some time. My mistake.

No worries. As you said, that first page is very unclear.
