When eBay refunds buyer AFTER an item is resent due to a postal delay REPORT TO POSTAL INSPECTORS

How much worse can eBay get?

When a buyer opens an item not received due to a postal delay and seller buys another label AND sends a replacement item, adds it to the case record, messages the buyer and eBay STILL gives the buyer a refund, it is damaging.

Now the buyer gets two items AND a refund.

One thing that is clear, customer service doesn’t look at its own shipping data.  They don’t even look at the case itself.  They just want to get it off their plate.  eBay customer service is a train wreck extension of monstrously incompetent eBay executives.

eBay customer service is so overwhelmed by the garbage company eBay has become that every seller and buyer ultimately pays, while the executive dimwits just pay themselves.

FILE A REPORT WITH POSTAL INSPECTORS WHEN THIS OCCURS.  eBay is ignoring an item IN TRANSIT to a buyer.  The data is in their case records.  The buyer also has a tracking number, so they can see the item IN TRANSIT, they can see the scans on the original delay but it’s so easy to scam sellers at this corporate abortion.  eBay has the most inconsistent customer service of ANY MAJOR ONLINE PLATFORM, BY FAR.

Im sure the current pile of warm steaming executives at eBay is well into their year end bonuses and bloated salaries, while front line employees just get obliterated by historically criminal managerial incompetence.

TO BE CONTINUED……

You should have waited until the last day you were allowed to respond and then refunded for the item if the item had not arrived. Sending a replacement does not satisfy the requirements for the item not received claim. What will often happen is what happened.

You’re right, I think I have to be more thorough in my follow up with postal inspectors to see what THEY think.

Did you insure package or send via Priority Mail?    Priority Mail (includes free insurance) and if package NEVER gets delivered....you can file LOST PACKAGE claim with USPS.com

You could ask the customer to return 2nd bracelet (if and when it arrives) or for payment of the "free bracelet" that you sent them.  If customer is honest they will want to do the right thing.

No clue what your response accomplishes except adding more dismissive community “dialogue”.  So you think the postal inspectors are managed like customer service reps?  Here let me help you.

They claim system is automated so no, customer service does not look at the claim. The bot sees that the buyer has filed a claim and that it has not been delivered by the deadline.  The system really isn't set up for the seller to send a replacement. AFAIK the bots for an inr claim only look at the delivery information.   In this case though, the buyer must have asked ebay to step in?   I don't know where you entered the new tracking number but it may have overwritten the original one so it would look like you just shipped the item.

If you see eBay has refunded then you needed to use USPS Package Intercept and have the replacement returned back to you.

Exactly what do you think the postal inspector will do?

Have a great day.

Where's the fraud?

Ebay's MBG says the buyer gets their item or their money back, and the buyer didn't get their item.

It's not Ebays fault you decided to ship them another one, when all you had to do was refund the buyer.

Have a great day.

eBay will automatically give an INR case an extension IF the tracking has shown movement within the last ten days. If there has been absolutely no movement within the last ten days, then the fact that the package is still supposedly "in transit" means nothing because there is no proof that it is still actually moving within the system as opposed to simply lost.Which is exactly how it should be. Buyers should not have to wait in limbo forever without either the item they ordered OR their money.

During the Christmas 2020 shipping fiasco, I had multiple packages get delayed for 2+ weeks. I did not lose a single INR case because all of them showed consistent movement on the tracking, albeit very slow movement-- it was clear that they were in fact in transit, just moving very, very slowly.

If there is NO movement whatsoever on tracking for a week or more, that's when it's your job to file a Missing Mail search. IIRC doing so also gives an INR case an extension, though I may be wrong on that.

One lesson to take away.

Never replace.

Refund.

customer service doesn’t look at its own shipping data. They don’t even look at the case itself. They just want to get it off their plate.

Yes.

Customer service in these Item Not Received cases is robotic.

Buyer complains.

Seller cannot provide Proof of Delivery.

  • Seller refunds.  No problem.
  • Seller refuses refund. EBay refunds seller and seller gets Defect.
  • Seller replaces. EBay cannot see that replacement shipment has arrived. EBay refunds seller and seller gets Defect.

Never replace.

Most INRs are late not lost. The purchase will show up eventually, perhaps mere hours after refunding.
